Written for advanced mixed choirs, this exciting concert setting uses text from the Ordinary of the Mass and the Book of Isaiah to form a versatile text suitable for Christmas or any time of year. Divisi writing gives a richness to the sound in the sustained passages, which contrast with a lively central section. 11592370 SSAATTBB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.65 A Golden Day—Patrick Vu. Here is a beautiful love song, passionate and stirring. The bittersweet lyrics are of events that happen on "a golden day." In a modern a cappella style with lots of closely moving harmonies, this is a touching concert piece for more advanced ensembles. 11564903 TTBB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.25 Heaven-Haven—Rachel DeVore Fogarty. Gerard Manley Hopkins' poetry and Hildegard of Bingen's lyrical passion come together to create this interesting work. Latin chant inspired by Hildegard and more accented homophony in the English are interwoven as an expression of deep longing. Suitable for advanced treble choirs. 11566621 SSA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.75 Help (Adiuva)—Philip E. Silvey. The first of three compositions based on Anne Lamott's book Help Thanks Wow: Three Essential Prayers, the composer expounds upon Lamott's unique take on keeping prayer simple. Translating her words into Latin, including one word for each prayer, drawn-out vowel syllables represent wailing in pain. Emotional anguish is represented by recurring minor second intervals; the piece ends with chanted Latin phrases as if in prayer. A worthy piece to explore for experienced treble choirs. 11593433 SSA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.15 Hymn to Time—Lee Kesselman. Ursula K. Le Guin's text is a meditation on the subject of time - its physics, its lyrical and emotional impact on us, and its rhythm. Using descriptive musical motives with diminution, this original work unfolds as a circle, beginning and ending at its most philosophical. The music includes hints at clocks ticking, Westminster chimes, soaring lyricism, minimalism, and a final chaconne. 11591417 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.80 I Softly Sing—Anthony Bernarducci. James Weldon Johnson's oft-set poem is a celebration of the ability of singing to see us through the darkest moments of life. This a cappella setting perfectly conveys the intimacy of our personal experience, and the rich harmonies invite us to give over our hearts to the quiet strength singing softly can lend us during somber moments. 11597271 SSAATBB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.80 If All the Skies—Anthony Bernarducci. Sunshine and rain, music and silence, happiness and grief - life is full of ups and downs, and in this sensitive setting of Henry Van Dyke's meditative poem, beautiful choral harmonies invite the listener to contemplate our need to welcome both the peaks and the valleys of life. 11597272 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.80 If Ye Love Me—Oscar Osicki. A compelling exploration of mystical harmonies and intricate counterpoint, this piece transitions through flowing, meditative textures into a kaleidoscopic canon across all voices. The composition peaks in a moment of dissonance and resolves into joyfully climactic chords. Ideal for advanced choirs looking for a rich tapestry of harmonies and textures. 11564943 SSAATTBB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.50 Into the Light, Deliver Me—Richard Burchard. "Death, thou art welcome to my arms attended by a thousand charms..." The text dates back as far as 1818 and speaks to the human desire for a peaceful end to life in this exciting and contemporary setting of a rich traditional hymn melody. Well-crafted phrases mark the hymn text while incorporating Latin with the folk-style solo designed to draw attention to the rhythm, melody, and message of the hymn. A soulful tenor solo, mixed meter, and chant all make an appearance in this piece for your advanced ensembles. 11564947 TTBB divisi, opt. Cello . . . . . . . . 3.25 Invisible Angels—Mark Kilstofte. From the composer's ongoing Rilke cycle, this piece transforms the lyricist's lament on grief and betrayal into a hope-filled message of defiance and resolve. Moments of dissonance and heightened intensity resolve into a peaceful, consonant stillness in this moving selection for mature ensembles. 11591037 SATB divisi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.65 Joy—Mark Sirett. Sara Teasdale's text is artfully set in for treble choir with a flowing piano accompaniment that brings a dramatic and artistic character to this original work. The texture offers rhythmic variety as the choral parts move against the piano's rhythmic figures to increase the musical tension and excitement. 11572842 SSA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.00 The Lamb—Luke Mayernik. From the VOCES8 Foundation Choral Series, both solo and choral parts in this setting of the William Blake poem are reasonably simple with occasional harmonic twists. Cyclical and meditative, it is a manageable amount to learn but requires great care in tuning and balance to bring out the childlike simplicity of the poem. It's a beautiful selection appropriate for performance at any time of year. 11593453 SATB divisi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.65 Laus Trinitati—Ivo Antognini. Hildegard of Bingen's Latin text is set in this chant-based ancient-modern original a cappella work for mixed choirs. The harmonies follow traditional patterns, while the varying rhythmic textures offer freshness and vitality that energizes the celebratory nature of the text. 11596667 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.50 A Life on the Ocean Wave—Clark William Lawlor. Transport your audience to the heart of the ocean with this beautiful setting of Epes Sargent's classic poem. This original work captures the calm and turmoil of the sea, from the gentle rocking of a ship to the fierce winds and rain. 11595571 SATB divisi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.95 Lighted Ever Onward—Brandon Martell. A rich setting of an Amy Lowell poem with lush piano and accessible part-writing encourages us to follow our guiding light. At times serene and at other times dramatic, the varying textures and moods take listeners on a musical journey, building with urgency and ending in glorious light. 11593434 SATB divisi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.85 Like Moons and Like Suns, I'll Rise—Mickey McGroarty. This setting of Maya Angelou's poem is an expression of strength through adversity, using counterpoint to represent the passing of troubled times. Changes in tone, texture, and meter represent the various emotions expressed throughout the poem, with the sopranos floating above the texture as the intensity rises. At times downtrodden, at times ferocious, this selection runs the gamut of emotions on the journey from a troubled past to a hopeful future. 11593435 SATB divisi, or SSAATTBB. . . . 3.20 The Listening—Cheryl Engelhardt. Drawing its inspiration from an impactful 1967 speech by Martin Luther King Jr., this powerful, innovative work expresses King's call for silent voices to speak out. The rhythmic elements in the piece are derived from the poetic nature of King's speech and include a section of rhythmic narration. The option to include a children's choir symbolizes the disruption of childhood peace by violence. 11564992 SSATB w/ opt. Unison Children's Choir . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.50 The Loam—Thomas LaVoy. Carl Sandburg's sparse poetry is deftly handled in this hypnotic work, lulling the audience into a contemplative observation of growth and renewal. With a chromatic ostinato representing the solidity of the ground and natural breathing patterns representing the porous nature of loam soil, this work leaves one feeling connected to the earth, the basis of all growing life. 11572459 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.75 Luminous—Thomas LaVoy. With text based on words written by high school students, this piece speaks of the complex feelings associated with generational pressure, one's place in society, and the desire to be a source of light in the world. Mostly in four parts throughout, with the exception of an aleatoric section at the end, this work has rich, bright harmonies that are truly luminous. 11572463 SSAATTBB or SATB with Divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.15 31 Browse a collection of over 300,000 titles, available for instant digital delivery. jwpepper.com/eprint Instant Sheet Music Delivery
