Dating back to the 1850s, this lively sea shanty is most likely inspired by the events of the Mexican-American War and combines elements of both contemporary music and Latin American rhythms. Opening with a duet, the arrangement quickly picks up and is accompanied by rocking percussion (timbales and congas). Sung in both English and French, an IPA pronunciation guide is included in the score. 11564429 TTBB w/ Percussion . . . . . . . . . 2.80 Senzeni Na?—arr. Michael Barrett. Arguably the best-known Nguni anti-apartheid struggle song, this has become an anthem in South Africa against all forms of injustice. This arrangement allows choirs to sing against the needless violence that has become commonplace in the world today. The arrangement begins with a solo that urges all to join in this statement, which is accomplished freely before settling into a hymn-like cadence for the full choir. 11568342 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.40 Swilo Yini—arr. Michael Barrett. Linked to the tragic sinking of a steamship that carried Black South African troops to fight against the Germans during World War I, this traditional Tsonga song from South Africa is arranged for mixed or tenor-bass choirs. Though the story is from the perspective of angry passengers, the song is to be sung in a jovial way, with dancing and improvised drum. 11593002 TTBB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.40 Three Taiwanese Indigenous Songs—arr. Tsai Yu-shan. From the Taroko and Tayal tribes in Taiwan, these three contrasting and fun-to-sing folk songs are arranged for a cappella mixed choir. The first is a harvest song capturing the sounds of people working in the field. The second, featuring a soloist, seeks consolation for the friends and family we miss. The third and final song returns to the harvest with energy and joy. Historical information, translations, and pronunciation guides are available as free downloads on the publisher's website. 11564506 SATB divisi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.50 Tokecang—arr. Ken Steven. A lively and authentic setting of this popular children's song from the Sunda region of West Java, Indonesia, this a cappella arrangement features short soprano and tenor solos and plenty of rhythmic and stylistic excitement for the choir. The playful text in Sundanese reminds us to be thankful and not greedy or selfish so that we can feel happiness together. 11593007 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.10 Trisagion—Iryna Alexksiychuk. Beautifully stated phrases from a canonical text plead "Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us." There are pronunciation guides and translation for the Ukrainian text, and the shimmering a cappella texture with optional violin obbligato effectively expresses the plaintive tone. Written in response to the war in Ukraine that began in 2022, it will add poignancy in worship and concert settings. 11565001 SSSAAA. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.25 Tschitta Saltunza (Butterfly Dance)—Marten Jansson. Using word painting to express the joyful dance and solemn wonder of the butterfly's flight, this exciting work for advanced mixed divisi choirs offers two text options. The original text by Swiss poet Arnold Spescha is in the Romansh language, spoken by people in the Swiss canton of Grisons. The English version by Charles Anthony Silvestri, as performed by VOCES8, is also included in italics. 11593009 SATB divisi, or SSAATTBB. . . . 2.90 Waloyo Yamoni—Christopher Tin. Translating to "We overcome the wind," this epic work is a setting of a Lango rain-making prayer from East Africa for mixed choir, orchestra, and mezzo- soprano and tenor soloists. The grand finale of the composer's second album, listeners will be transported by the sweeping cinematic orchestration and choral writing of this composer best known for Baba Yetu. 11569221 SSATBB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.45 When the World Quiets Down—Shih Ching-Ju. Opening and closing with Debussy's Arabesque No. 1, the artistic piano accompaniment provides a flowing texture that propels the lovely lyrical lines of the choral parts along in this original work. This romantic love song soars with arching phrases and lush harmonies that will allow mature choirs to express their musical sensitivity. The translation and a pronunciation guide are available as free downloads on the publisher's website. 11564507 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.25 Y'did Nefesh—Jonathan Sheffer. This Hebrew text asks for divine intercession on our behalf in the form of mercy and compassion. A rich unaccompanied harmonic palette, a variety of choral textures, and a meterless feel make this a rewarding challenge for more advanced ensembles. 11566214 SATB divisi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.65 35 STUDY & FULL SCORES Whether a Dover study score or an urtext edition, Pepper has the resources needed for both college students and directors alike.
