Sight-Singing & Warm-Ups | Music Theory & Musicianship
SMART: Sight Singing Made Accessible,
Readable, Teachable—Denise Eaton.
Founded on the premise that young
singers tend to view each key as a
separate "language," this creative
approach to sight singing addresses the
needs of visual learners by organizing the
treble and bass clef exercises key by key.
Volume 1 provides visual orientation and
melodies to sight read in seven keys. Each
section begins with the scale and outlines
the tonic chord for that key, followed by a
tonal drill. Students are introduced to the
intervals of seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths
and sixths. Volume 2 is designed to hone
the reading skills of advanced choirs and
to provide preparatory materials for the
rehearsal and performance of works in
minor tonalities, while Volume 3 focuses
on modulating tonalities.

Snap Cards (Sight-Reading Skill-
Building Flashcards in a "Snap"!)—
Theresa Pritchard. Snap Cards, a series of
carefully curated skill-building flashcards, is
a classroom tool designed to help students
confidently learn to sight-read while having
fun as a class. Years of learning which
intervals and patterns are consistently
challenging for emerging singers has led
to the development of a reliable method
for simplifying this typically intimidating
subject. Educators will find fun and exciting
suggestions for utilizing the cards in the
classroom for both teaching and assessing
reading skills. Snap Cards for Upper Voice
Treble Clef features intervals inherent to
the soprano and tenor voice sight-reading
requirements, while the Snap Cards for
Lower Voice Treble Clef packet features
alto sight-reading requirements. The Snap
Cards for Bass Clef set is for tenors and
basses who read in the bass clef. Each
pack has 50 cards, grouped into ten groups
of five, with each group building upon the
skills of the previous groups.
