Dormi—arr. Tim Winebrenner. Medieval
Latin text about the first Christmas is set

Eatnemen Vuelie (Song of the Earth)—
Frode Fjellheim/arr. Emily Crocker.
The opening musical number from the
Disney animated feature "Frozen," this
song is inspired by indigenous Saami
and Norwegian culture, a combination of
Saami yoiking and the Danish Christmas
hymn Dejlig er jorden, or Fairest Lord
Jesus, by B.S. Ingemann. Yoik is a very
old vocal tradition among the Saami people
of Scandinavia and Russia, characterized
by short melodic phrases that repeat again
and again, with small variations.

El Humo (The Smoke)—Eduardo Cota.
Everyday imagery comes to life; pictures
of smoke trailing from chimneys up to the
sky weave through a charming melody and
accompaniment. This is a great selection
for choirs learning how to sing in two parts,
but its poetry and sonority also work well for
older treble groups.

English lyrics that can be used throughout
the year or to celebrate the Kwanzaa
principle of Umoja (unity). Djembe and

to the pictorial and folk-like expression of
the poem.

Haida—arr. Henry Leck. Based on a
Chassidic round, this arrangement is
excellent to help a beginning chorus to sing
together in parts. First sung in unison, then
in a three-part round, the music is fun and
easily accessible. The word "Haida" has no
specific meaning, but is meant to be treated
much like "lah" in American folk music.
