Having written this for her son in 1998, composer Michele Fernandez brings us this highly emotional and rewarding work for jazz ensemble. The nostalgic opening solo section (which is optional) leads to a sizzling salsa groove that gradually intensifies throughout. The distinctive melody is complemented by lushly scored countermelodies, and all rhythm section parts are carefully notated for authenticity. 11401137 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 11501528 Full Score . . . . . . . . . . . 7.50 Old Havana—Brad Ciechomski. The opening portion of this Latin rock chart is set in C minor at 144 bpm. The rhythm section parts are well notated, and the chart grooves along before kicking into high gear with a piano montuno at 215 bpm to set up the burning second section. A great workout for the whole band! 11615251 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Pick Up the Pieces—arr. Victor Lopez. It's funk-rock... you know it, you love it! The tune is infectious, the arrangement is right on target with no individual solos but plenty of section and ensemble work. The sax soli is crazy hot and the lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. Lots of unison lines, some fun bari sax licks and a very hip stop-time interlude that really cooks. This arrangement really works for this tune! Consider this chart a winner! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10068806 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Poinciana—Nat Simon/arr. Mike Dana. This jazz standard is treated with a light and sort of funky groove played at a laid- back tempo. Written-out solos are provided for trumpet 1 (optional flugelhorn) and alto sax 1 along with some very nice ensemble sections. This chart is great to slow things down on your program and still keep the audience engaged. 11400586 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 48.00 Quintessentially Cool—Bob Turner. Find your groove on this laid-back rock chart. A great change of pace for your band. 11621962 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 50.00 Red Clay—Freddie Hubbard/arr. Mark Taylor. From jazz great Freddie Hubbard, here is one of his most famous tunes in a solidly written chart by Mark Taylor. With a funky rock feel and well-known riffs, your band will enjoy performing this one time and again! This is also a great chart for your soloists! 10072800 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Red Clay—Freddie Hubbard/arr. Mike Kamuf. A gem of a chart, here's Freddie Hubbard's Red Clay arranged for developing jazz bands. Characteristically, it's a straight-eighths groove at 132 bpm with written or ad lib solos for tenor sax and trumpet 2. A more subtle and quieter interlude adds variety and interest, and a unique and effective rhythm section break featuring the bassist leads to the return of the head. The trumpet 1 range is to written G on top of the staff and a nice shout chorus further adds to the fun. Playable with optional expanded instrumentations. A great jazz standard superbly arranged! 10513883 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 48.00 Road Song—Wes Montgomery/arr. Alan Baylock. The groove is funky rock in this chart on the signature Wes Montgomery tune. At about 140 bpm, the solos are suggested and written for guitar and for any C, B-flat, E-flat, or bass clef instrument for flexibility. The solo section can easily be opened up to include as many soloists as desired. The ensemble gets plenty of exposure as well, both behind the soloists and as a featured partner. Quality chart! 11198994 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 54.00 Rock My Rock—Mathew Montgomery. Sometimes you just need to rock. Permission granted. 11622554 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 65.00 September—arr. Mark Taylor. Here's the classic funk tune from Earth, Wind & Fire in a terrific arrangement for big band by Mark Taylor. This one includes all your favorite signature horn riffs as well as a solo for tenor sax. 10016127 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Serenity Now—Philip Loewen. This original rock chart drives from the opening to the very end. It features an open middle section providing optional solo work from every section or any soloist. 11621848 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 80.00 Sir Duke—Stevie Wonder/arr. Michael Mossman. In 1977 Stevie Wonder was in his prime and Sir Duke was on top of the charts. Michael Philip Mossman takes this familiar hit and adds his own unique touch. The opening features the brass with sax section fills. The middle section goes into a double-time swing and includes a solo for tenor sax, a soli for the saxes, and a drum break. All the familiar lines from the original are there too! Suggested solos are included along with scale/chord sheets in all keys. Highly recommended! 10297508 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Soul Proprietor—Ellen Rowe. A gospel rocker with a straight-eighth feel - this chart rocks quietly and gradually builds in intensity to the written or improvised solo space for any saxophone, any rhythm section player, or any brass player. Do not miss the saxophone section soli without the rhythm section that materializes after the solos. Then it's back to the recap and a surprise ending. With its varied textures, strong melody and happy attitude, this chart is highly recommended! 10999974 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Star Eyes—Gene DePaul/arr. Rick Hirsch. This arrangement of the classic tune is a great fit for any performance or classroom. At a moderate 148 bpm, this chart has written eight-bar solos for alto sax 1, tenor sax 1, trumpet 1, and trombone 1 to let your leads be heard. This is an arrangement that every library should have. 11400614 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 48.00 Steampunk—Erik Morales. Heavy metal for big band! Guitar is the featured solo instrument in this very cool chart, so if you, the band and your drummer dig a rock vehicle to wake everyone up, this is it. The lead trumpet range is only to written G on top of the staff, optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations, and a suggested guitar solo part is provided if needed. Steampunk is totally exciting and a great vehicle for guitar and big band! 10593779 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 52.00 Superstition—Stevie Wonder/arr. Mike Tomaro. Mike Tomaro weaves this funk classic by Stevie Wonder through a series of new twists and turns, but he is careful to preserve the great groove and signature horn riffs of the original. There are featured solos for alto and trumpet in this style defining hit that sets the pace for the genre! 2481654 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 50.00 Tell Me Something Good—Stevie Wonder/arr. Mike Tomaro. This classic funk tune from the 1970s was written by Stevie Wonder, but became a huge hit for Rufus and Chaka Khan. Featuring a slow and driving pulse with heavily syncopated figures, this chart provides a powerful change-of-pace for concerts, contests and festivals. 10617878 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Two Seconds to Midnight—Alan Baylock. This high-energy chart is perfect for concert or festival performance because it's intensely funky, and very cool! The intimate, small-group sound of the solo segments for trombone and guitar contrast effectively with the fully voiced power of the rest of the chart, creating a very satisfying rock-fusion groove! 2472237 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 60.00 Updraft—Jeff Jarvis. You're going to love this original tune. A solid, infectious 3/4 funk groove is coupled with a modern-sounding chord progression to give this driving chart plenty of audience appeal. Solos are offered for tenor sax and trumpet but can be assigned to other instruments if desired. 11199480 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00 Uptown Funk!—arr. Paul Murtha. Your jazz band players and audiences will dig the poppin' rhythmic figures, the funky style, outstanding ensemble passages and the high energy. It lays well at around 120 bpm and has written or improvised solos for alto/bari, tenor, trumpet, and trombone.
