Salon Morisot: Devotion—Jodie
Blackshaw. From a suite of three
miniatures inspired by the remarkable
artistry of little-known female French
impressionist artist Berthe Morisot (1841-
1895). Morisot was highly admired by her
fellow Impressionist colleagues, and her
works were exhibited in the very first (and
many consequential) Impressionist Salon
of 1874 (a salon being an exhibition). This
second movement from the suite is inspired
by Morisot's artwork called "The Cradle"
and is a perfect addition to a program
dedicated to mothers and caregivers.

School Musician March (New Edition)—
William H. Beebe & Christoper Paul/arr.
Joseph Benjamin Earp. This piece depicts
a student's journey from beginning band
through college. Written in 1952, this
march represents the beginning of an
era when instrumentation for the concert
band was beginning to be modernized.
This updated arrangement of the march
expands the original condensed score
to a full transposed score and clarifies
inconsistencies with tempo, articulations,
and dynamics throughout. An amazing
work that had been lost through the years
has been revitalized to create an exciting

Secret Valley—Michael Sweeney. In
the Mississippi River valley, portions of
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois lie
in a "driftless" region bypassed by ancient
glaciers. The resulting scenic beauty is
characterized by magnificent rocky bluffs,
steep ravines, and forested hills. Explore
a winding road through the misty bluffs, an
unexpected forested valley, a grand view
of the mighty river, or a surprising burst
of foliage on a crisp autumn day on this
musical journey. The piece uses inventive
textures and striking effects to help your
imagination run wild. (c. 5:15)

Shadow of the Sphinx—Amy Webb.
Transport listeners to ancient Egypt,
where the relentless labor of workers
who built monuments in the desert was

and the mysterious grandeur of the Great
Sphinx. The piece uses light percussion to
mimic the movement of camels and slow,
deliberate melodies to reflect the weariness
of the workers. Attention to precision and
balance between the instruments will help
re-create the mystical, ancient atmosphere.

Lalonde. Capture the emotional aftermath
of a battle as the sounds of war give way
