This perennial concert favorite by Tchaikovsky
has been expertly arranged for concert
band by Robert Longfield. It can stand
alone as a grade 3 composition, or it can be
performed in a mass band setting by using
the supplementary grade 1 and grade 2 sets
of parts (sold separately). Percussionists will
have a "blast" emulating cannon sounds and
church bells.

first performance of this piece, the conductor
performed with over 850 musicians! Talk about
a "Band-o-rama"! For years, directors have
asked for pieces that can be performed with
mass bands, whether as a culminating number
in a multi-school concert, or as a recruitment
tool to keep younger bandsmen motivated. In
some instances, one school will have multiple
bands, each at a different ability level. This
piece will meet the need if any of this sounds
familiar to you. The amazing aspect of this
piece, is that the "sets" that encompass three
levels of difficulty, elementary, middle or junior
high, and high school, work as an independent
piece. The music simply gets better as the

Representing moods and scenes of southern

Shorewood Overture—Michael Sweeney.
Shorewood Overture is designed to be
performed by multi-level bands. Rather than
the typical massed band number in which
everyone plays at once, this ingenious overture
allows each level to be featured briefly by
itself, along with sections when everyone plays
together. In addition, the Level 3 parts include
cues, allowing the work to be performed by a
single ensemble. This is ideal for district-wide
festivals!
