Alfred's Beginning Drum Set Method—
Sandy Feldstein & Dave Black. This
innovative, practical approach to playing
the drumset captures students' interest
from the first lesson, when they play an
actual beat! All of the beats presented
can be used in an actual performance
situation. The book is divided into two
sections - Rock and Jazz. Each section
covers the use of hi-hat, ride cymbal,
snare drum and bass drum. With the
help of the CD recording, the student can
follow the book while hearing each of the
beats played. It also includes three actual
arrangements, two in a rock style, the other
in jazz, allowing the drummer to have the
experience of actually playing with a group!

Alfred's Drumset Method No. 2—Dave
Black & Mark Powers. Alfred's Drumset
Method, Book 2 is a continuation of Alfred's
Beginning Drumset Method. The rock and
jazz vocabularies previously learned in
Book 1 have been expanded, and additional
concepts and genres, such as blues, 3/4
time, brushes, and Latin are introduced.
The book includes a professional-quality
recording demonstrating a number of the
beats, fills, and styles presented throughout
the book. This will enable the student
to hear the beats and fills played with
dynamics, so the student feels as though
they're actually sitting in with a band while
reading the included charts. Like those
before it, a must-have!

American Popular Piano (Preparatory
Level)—Christopher Norton & Scott
McBride Smith. J. S. Bach taught his
children using the music of his day. He
didn't think of using styles that were 100
years old to inspire and develop musical
skills in his children. Respected piano
pedagogues Christopher Norton and
Dr. Scott McBride Smith have created
American Popular Piano with this premise
in mind. They've taken contemporary
music styles and written highly motivating,
musically sound material for piano students.
Best for students age nine through adult,
the method begins at the Preparatory
Level with tunes on the grand staff in C
Major. Each Repertoire book is chock
full of tunes in a variety of contemporary
dance styles including Blues, Bossa
Nova, Cha Cha, Jazz Waltz, and Ska,
just to name a few! These styles will grab
your students' attention and keep them
motivated while they develop a lifelong
love of playing the piano. Sophisticated
teacher duets are included so the students'
ear develops, preparing them for more
advanced playing and listening! A CD
is included with each Repertoire book,
offering equally sophisticated instrumental
accompaniments to tunes in the Repertoire
and Etudes books. Etudes books at every
level offer solid, step-by-step opportunities
for improvisation and also include classical
and pop etudes.

Thank You
"Thank you, J.W. Pepper, for being there for me and many other
musicians. I use choral selections, and "Editors' Choice" is my
favorite—the selections fit my searches exactly. I look for catchy
melodies, age-appropriate language, and suitable vocal challenges.
The music is so well-organized for all seasons of the year."
