few of the fun extended techniques players
will encounter in this scary venture into the
dissonance of music - decomposing!

Allegretto (Symphony No. 7, Mvt. 2)—
Ludwig van Beethoven/arr. Todd Parrish.
At the 1813 premiere of Beethoven's
Symphony No. 7, the audience was so
enthralled with the mysterious second
movement, they clamored for an immediate
encore at the concert's conclusion. This
now widely recognized Allegretto was
written at a time when the composer
was struggling with his hearing loss. The
solemn opening ostinato is joined by
a graceful sustained melody. Layering
countermelody over melody, the movement
develops harmonically and dynamically,
crescendoing to a forceful forte before
dropping back to a quiet piano conclusion.

harpsichord maker, Elisabeth Jacquet de
La Guerre first learned to play under her
father's tutelage. At a young age, she was
brought into the court of Louis XIV as a
musician. Elisabeth taught, composed,
and performed throughout Paris - a rare
accomplishment for a woman at that
time. This Allemande from her Suite
No. 2 features the elegant style of the
period. Originally highly ornamented,
this arrangement has been simplified
so that developing players may
experience the music of this historically
important composer.
