winds. All seems lost until a beacon of
light shining in the dark is spotted by the
desperate crew. The opening measures
describe the vast dark ocean upon which
the tiny sailing ship is adrift. The main
melody is a rising and falling musical
idea depicting the large ocean waves.
A second melody portrays the gentle
glowing lighthouse in the distance, literally
a beacon of hope. The final measures are
in the major mode indicating the safe
arrival of the ship on the shore.
