The Cajun Navy—Michael Story. The
Cajun Navy is a large group of volunteer
Louisiana boat owners well known for their
heroic rescue efforts after hurricanes and
floods. Formed in 2005 after Hurricane
Katrina's devastation, the group has not
only aided in Louisiana but also in other
states, including Texas, North Carolina,
and Florida. The piece utilizes original
music as well as two Cajun folk songs: Tout
un Beau soir en me promenant and Jolie
blonde, considered to be the Cajun national
anthem due to its widespread popularity.

Climbing Quandary—Robert Sheldon.
One of the most popular hikes in the Rocky
Mountains is a climb up to Quandary Peak
in Colorado, so named due to the mineral
outcroppings that confused prospectors
while searching for silver in the 1860s. One
of the 58 14ers in Colorado (mountain peaks
above 14,000 feet), it is known as one of the
easier climbs and consequently very popular.
Enlist your art department to have students
display pictures of their mountain artwork
during performance, or project images of
Quandary Peak, many of which can be found

composer was inspired by the European
Space Agency's Columbus laboratory,

work was commissioned by the Brass
Band Bourgueillois, which has become
a "laboratory" of musical creativity. In
response to the many positive reactions to
this attractive work, the composer has now
