Morisot was highly admired by her fellow Impressionist colleagues, and her works were exhibited in the very first (and many consequential) Impressionist Salon of 1874 (a salon being an exhibition). This third movement depicts the changes in Morisot's life and painting following her marriage and the birth of her daughter. 11617634 Band Set & Score . . . . . 49.00 San Antonio Sunrise—Kyle McKinzey. Transport listeners to ancient Egypt, where the relentless labor of workers who built monuments in the desert was marked by exhaustion and pride. The music evokes the vastness of the desert and the mysterious grandeur of the Great Sphinx. Attention to precision and balance between the instruments will help re-create the mystical, ancient atmosphere. 11622798 Band Set & Score . . . . . 85.00 Shine Kindly Here—Megan Vinther. Inspired by Mark Twain's poem Warm Summer Sun, this piece evokes the beauty of nature as sunlight dances across the water. Our sun has represented different things throughout history. It was a deity. An indirect source of food. A supplier of light. A point for navigation. An aid in the telling of time. However, one thing has remained constant: humans have always been enamored by the sheer power of the sun. Solar flares are one such manifestation of this power. NASA states that "[solar] eruptions are created when the motion of the sun's interior contorts its own magnetic fields. Like the sudden release of a twisted rubber band, the magnetic fields explosively realign, driving vast amounts of energy into space. This phenomenon can create a sudden flash of light – a solar flare." This piece alludes to the awesome power of a solar flare with its driving rhythms, sudden changes, and majestic fanfares. 11605317 Band Set & Score . . . . 150.00 Solidarity!—William Owens. (2:15) 11616403 Band Set & Score . . . . . 70.00 A Somerset Rhapsody—Gustav Holst/ arr. Douglas E. Wagner. Written at the peak of the early 20th century period of intense folk music interest in Great Britain, Holst's A Somerset Rhapsody draws upon tunes collected by Cecil Sharp (to whom the work is dedicated) in his travels throughout that area of exceptional natural beauty in Southwest England. Holst chose three of these folk songs that are seamlessly presented in this arrangement: the pensive Sheep Shearing Song, the bold High Germany, and the doleful The True Lover's Farewell. Penned in 1906, this displays definite hints of the iconic First Suite in E-flat (1909) and Second Suite in F (1911) for military band soon to come. This arrangemment is an excellent way to introduce your students to the music of Holst. (2:50) 11616399 Band Set & Score . . . . . 70.00 Song for the Manatees—Heather Hoefle.
