Tree City Triptych—Chris Sharp. This
piece uses the three-note motive G-C-B as
the basis for the entire piece. It features a
driving opening movement, a lyrical middle
section, and a triumphant finale. Great for
concerts and assessments.

Trip the Light Fantastic!—Robert
Sheldon. Tuneful and lighthearted, this
piece features syncopated rhythms and
a touch of Lydian modality to enhance
its playfulness. The title, borrowed from
a poem by John Milton, means to dance
nimbly and land lightly using fancy footwork
– most appropriate for a composition that
also seems to dance nimbly and land lightly
on the listener's ear. (5:00)

Tuttarana—Reena Esmail. The title of this
piece is a conglomeration of two words:
the Italian word tutti, meaning "all" or
"everyone," and the term tarana, which is
a specific Hindustani (North Indian) musical
form whose closest Western counterpart
is the "scat" in jazz. The tarana is a place
where musicians can put their greatest
virtuosity on display, leaving an audience in
awe. While a tarana is a solo form, this work
brings that same energy to an ensemble
form. Originally written for treble chorus,
then arranged for brass quintet, it is now in
its third iteration for concert band.

Under the Night Sky in the Philippines—
arr. Robert Langenfeld. This interpretation
of two Filipino lullabies, Dandansoy and Sa
Ugoy ng Duyan, invokes the feeling we all
got as children when our guardians sang
us to sleep. But more importantly, it's about
bringing the culture of the Philippines to a new
generation and helping celebrate and honor it.
The collaborators on this project dedicate this
work to the culture and country of the
Philippines and all of the people in our lives
who come from and are descendants of these
islands. If no soprano is available, alternative
instrumental solo parts are provided.

The Veil Nebula—Jennifer Rose. Mysterious
and otherworldly, this Grade 3.5 work is
inspired by the remnants of a supernova
in the Cygnus constellation. Intriguing
harmonies, colorful orchestration, and the
eerie voice of a theremin (or synthesizer)
create a shimmering, celestial soundscape.
Shifting textures and mood evoke the
timeless beauty of space, while stunning
NASA imagery of the Veil Nebula can
enhance the performance with a powerful
visual connection. A unique and atmospheric
addition to any concert or festival program.

Vesti la giubba—Ruggero Leoncavallo/
arr. Jordi Ripoll. In 1902, Enrico Caruso's
recording of this aria for tenor from the opera
"Pagliacci" was the first song in history to sell
a million copies. It is sung at the end of the
first act, when Canio discovers his wife's
infidelity but must prepare for a show by
playing the role of Pagliaccio, the clown.
This arrangement adapts perfectly to the
lyrical characteristics of the trombone and
euphonium as it allows the performer to
show all their expressive potential.

Vielle priere bouddhique (Old Buddhist
Prayer)—Lili Boulanger/arr. Travis
Freshner. Originally for chorus and
orchestra, this work was one of the last
pieces Lili Boulanger composed before
her untimely death at the age of 24 in
1918. It beautifully encapsulates themes
of spirituality and reflection and is notable
for its serene and meditative quality,
which mirrors the contemplative nature of
Buddhist prayers. The arranger expertly
transforms this piece for the modern concert
band (without chorus) while staying true to
the composer's original intent. A glossary of
French terms is included, as are the original
French lyrics and English translation.

Windstorm—Vince Gassi. The forecast:
gusting winds, increasing tempi, with a
mix of powerful brass and thunderous
percussion, and a 100 percent chance
of participation. This will sweep over your
audience like a powerful tempest, the calm
before the storm foreshadowing the gentle
zephyr calmly flowing through the lyrical
section. (4:00)
