Lord of All Hopefulness—arr. David

Love, Come Down—Ralph Vaughan
Williams, Karen Marrolli. Love is the
common thread in this refreshing pairing of
original music and text with the traditional
Come Down, O Love Divine text and the
DOWN AMPNEY tune. Lilting syncopation,
well-crafted vocals, pretty harmonies, and a
brief a cappella passage combine to breathe
calm into our stress-filled lives. Appropriate
for general worship or Pentecost.

Anthem)—Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Commissioned for the coronation of King
Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2023, this
anthem was first performed by a massed
choir including the Westminster Abbey Choir
with the Coronation Orchestra. Using text
from Psalm 98, this fanfare is glorious yet
accessible. Editions are available for mixed
chorus accompanied by piano or organ or
for unison voices accompanied by piano.

melody. New harmonies and ambient
electric guitar accompaniment create an
ancient/modern feel, giving new life to this
classic hymn. A piano-only accompaniment
part is available should you want to program
this with just the piano accompaniment.

A New Jerusalem Arise—Kyle Pederson/
ed. Dan Forrest. This striking adaptation
foretells a future free from tears, hatred, and
injustice and provides a vision of a renewed
and redeemed earth: "A New Jerusalem
arise, a new creation come alive, into the
dawning after dark, arise!" A combination
of varied musical influences is skillfully
woven together for choir, piano, and
optional instruments including cello, organ,
handbells, and drum as well as optional
congregational involvement (congregational
handout included).

O Come, Let Us Sing (Psalm 95)—Walter
L. Pelz. This festive setting of Psalm 95 for
choirs of any size will create a big sound
with its skillful part-writing. The organ
accompaniment supports the singing and
adds a festive sparkle. The accessible
anthem is perfect as an introit or call to
worship, particularly for Lent (Year A) and
Christ the King.

O God of Life—Alan Wiseman. This
anthem combines an ancient Gaelic prayer
with the English translation of the Kyrie. The
Mixolydian melody hearkens back to Gaelic
tradition and the many generations of praying
faithful who precede us. It should be sung so
that each phrase crashes like waves, one
after the other, on the ears of God.

O Holy Spirit, Root of Life—Thomas
Keesecker. This vibrant Pentecost anthem
is based on the hymn tune
PUER NOBIS. It
is scored for SAB or SATB choirs singing
a cappella. The flute or violin part adds a
dance-like energy, mirroring the Spirit's
lively presence. It is a wonderful addition
for Pentecost Sunday or sung as an introit
during general seasons.

O Lord, Hear My Prayer—Robert G.
Farrell. This haunting setting based on
Psalms 102 and 142 features themes
of petition, prayer, and longing for God.
The expressive dissonances and their
resolutions reflect spiritual yearning. The
simple optional handbell part is included and
can be played between each verse to further
evoke the contemplative atmosphere.

O Sacrum Convivium—Sarah K. May.
Sung entirely in Latin, this modern motet
is a heartfelt setting of St. Aquinas'
classic Eucharistic text. Imitative writing
in the middle section balances the modal
harmonies of the outer sections. The
difficulty level is very accessible. It is
appropriate as a post-Communion reflection
or during the feast of Corpus Christi.

O Splendor of God's Glory Bright—arr.
Brenda Portman. This highly adaptable
anthem sets a familiar hymn text to the well-
loved
TALLIS' CANON. The music begins in
unison with additional parts added in canon
per stanza, up to four parts optionally. The
organ accompaniment beautifully supports
the canon and adds depth to the anthem.
An accessible yet impressive anthem for
choirs of any size and useful throughout the
year, particularly during Epiphany.

O Word of God Incarnate—arr. Brenda
Portman. While the text and tune (MUNICH)
for this familiar hymn remain unaltered,
the harmonic structure diverts from the
normal, and the melody includes gentle
elongation of phrases. A descant is
included on the final verse. The flowing
piano accompaniment supports the singers
and enhances the anthem with moments
of effective text painting, reflecting the
challenges and uncertainties of the world.

On the Highway—Margaret Burk. The
imagery of windows, saints, and organs
evokes the idea of a "thin place" and the
transformation we experience. The Lydian
harmonies evoke a sense of holiness,
newness, and prayer. The ostinatos
represent the cloud of witnesses who
have gone before us. This celebration
of community and music brings heaven
and earth so close that we cannot help
but be changed.

An Open Door—Jack Warren Burnam.
The text for this composition is taken from
several familiar passages of scripture
referencing the invitation to "knock and
the door shall be opened." Musical
motifs describe both the open door and
the admonition to "listen." Part of the
Association of Anglican Musicians Series,
the anthem uses organ accompaniment to
support and enhance the choral writing.
11538011 SATB w/ Organ. . . . . . . . 2.65
Our Great Redeemer's Praise—Thomas
Jarman/arr. Anna Laura Page. The
traditional Charles Wesley text is combined
with the buoyant tune,
LYNGHAM, to create
a rousing anthem. A regal first stanza is
followed by a legato treatment in the second
stanza. The third stanza, set in relative minor,
beautifully paints the text. The regal style
returns in the last stanza for a triumphant
ending. Parts for 3-5 octave handbells are
available separately, as are score and parts
for trumpets 1 &2, trombones 1 & 2, horn
in F (sub. for trombone 1), tuba, percussion,
timpani, and organ.

Pentecost—Eurydice V. Osterman. This
anthem with organ accompaniment and
oboe takes its words from a poem by
William Blake. Melodically, the tune is
simple, with frequent harmonic shifts and
deceptive cadences that might make it
sound more difficult than it really is.
