And the Wind Blows—Matthew Compton.
The commission for this piece written
in memory of a beloved ringer included
instructions to highlight bass chimes and to
feature C4/D4, a favorite position. The piece
musically depicts the variety of emotions
that accompany the loss of a loved one:
sadness, heartbreak, grief, anger, and
frustration, but through it all, even in the
midst of grief, there remains hope, light,
and peace. The title, And the Wind Blows,
is drawn from John 3:8 and Ecclesiastes
11:5, which remind us that while we do
not understand God's ways, we can take
solace in knowing God will provide and can
ultimately find peace. The beloved hymn
It Is Well with My Soul is incorporated,
offering a message of enduring faith and
hope. 8:24
