8 2025-26 Editors' Choice New Basic Library Available via ePrint Downloadable All Prices in U.S. Dollars & Subject To Publisher Revision Second to None—Kevin Sluder. The second violins take center stage in this lively piece set in 6/8 meter. Usually in a supporting role, they now lead the way through a playful musical journey, with the rest of the orchestra providing a rich and colorful backdrop. 11639905 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . M 70.00 The Sneaky Pumpkin—Rebecca Tompkins. A fun little piece that will bring humor to your fall concert. Creative use of dynamics and articulation makes this a great teaching tool that will keep your students engaged while having fun! 11637913 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . ME 65.00 Squeaky Toy Waltz—Nicolas Repetto. This novel new work will introduce budding orchestra students to 3/4 time (tempo di valse), legato/marcato bow techniques, and some fun contrasting sections. Add some optional squeaky toys for extra fun. Invite a special guest to be your "squeaky toy" soloist and help accompany your orchestra at your next concert! 11642807 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . VE 55.00 Strings in the Trap—Stephen Spottswood. This hip-hop orchestration incorporates technology and should be played with the audio track (MP3 download) and a speaker. The piece utilizes staccato and pizzicato which are to be played in a fun and lively style. Lots of contemporary swagger! 11376257 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . B 41.00 Original Concert Works Beginning 5th Avenue Rock—Kathryn Griesinger. This rocking piece for beginning strings is based on the interval of a perfect fifth – thus the title! Students can practice easy string crossings on open strings, simple rhythms, and stepwise finger patterns. Violin 2 doubles viola and cello doubles bass to build confidence and create a full sound. The piano and drum set fill in during rests, allowing the young orchestra to shine at its very first concert. 11401176 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . B 50.00 The Abandoned Funhouse—Brian Balmages. Written for the true beginner, this piece takes the listener on an eerie tour that can best be described as an unsettling experience with a touch of curiosity and anxiousness. Piano and optional celesta (playable on keyboard) create a haunting background reminiscent of a film score. Instruments move mostly by stepwise motion, and all string crossings involve an open string. No eighth notes are used, and many instruments use only five or six notes. 10592171 String Orchestra, Keyboard Req'd . . . . . . . . . . B 50.00 Atoms!—Katie O'Hara LaBrie. This ethereal and driving work captures the essence of the tiny marvels that make up our universe. This piece for multilevel string orchestra celebrates how atoms, though small and invisible, create endless possibilities when combined. The B part (Grade 2.5) can be treated as a standalone piece or can be enriched with parts for various skill levels, including an adapted open string part for students with disabilities. 11583971 String Orchestra Multi-Level. . . . . . . . . . . . B-MA 85.00 Beyond the Waterfall—Katie O'Hara LaBrie. A captivating piece for beginning string orchestra and piano with an optional Grade 3 violin solo. Lush string harmonies create a flowing, dreamlike atmosphere, while twinkling piano lines reflect shimmering droplets of the water. The optional soaring solo line adds a touch of expressive beauty. This piece is equally an enchanting choice for young orchestras developing musicality or a great backdrop for more mature students beginning to explore vibrato. 11617591 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . B-M 55.00 Five Note Fiddler—Brian Balmages. Based entirely on just the first five notes of the D major scale, this is an ideal way to reinforce the D tetrachord while having a ton of fun in a fiddle- inspired setting. The melody playfully weaves throughout the ensemble as the music unfolds. Surprisingly sophisticated in sound, yet very approachable! 11568698 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . B 50.00 Hall of Heroes—Brian Balmages. This stunning fanfare uses only quarter notes and half notes. All instruments use just the five notes D to A, with the exception of violin 1 which uses the full D major scale; yet all string crossings involve open strings. Despite its playability, this is powerful, harmonically sophisticated, and very compelling! 11619626 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . B 50.00 Impulse—Brian Balmages. For the very youngest musicians, this highly energetic piece does not use eighth notes, is based on a one-octave D Major scale, and uses mostly stepwise motion throughout. Despite these features, the music is powerful and aggressive. 10512570 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . B 50.00 Instinct—Brian Balmages. This aggressive work for true beginners portrays those inherent, sometimes raw behaviors that help a species survive. All string parts move almost entirely by stepwise motion and use just half and whole notes. Violin 1 uses a full D major scale, and all other instruments use D through B. An optional percussion part adds considerable interest to the piece. A background track is also available if you do not have percussionists. Powerful! 10995999 String Orchestra, Perc. Optional . . . . . . . . . . . . B 55.00 Into the Midnight Forest—Mekel Rogers. Using only quarter notes and half notes in modes of D major, this composition evokes the feeling of a mysterious march through the darkness that students will enjoy playing and parents will enjoy hearing! With easy bowings, limited range, and a viola part that doubles second violin, this work will make a first-year orchestra sound marvelous at their first concert of the year! 11510720 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . .
