As recorded on the great Basie-Straight Ahead album of 1968 by Count Basie, this swing outing features solid section and full ensemble writing, brass buckets, sax scoops, drum fills, and piano in the solo role. The tempo is not taxing with the quarter equaling 120; however, paying careful attention to dynamics will be especially important. The rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued. 2477338 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Leon's Neon—James Gagne. A hard- swinging with a groove that alternates between a two-beat and four-beat feel. All sections enjoy great figures along with an incredibly hip sax soli. Written changes for Alto Sax, Tenor Sax and Trumpet. 11640147 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Let's Do It, Let's Fall In Love—Cole Porter/arr. Tyler Arcari. The Cole Porter classic gets the full swing treatment in this arrangement. In the B section of the tenor solo, there is a great trombone soli without the rhythm section that your students will really be able to dig into, and the ending builds to a dynamic hit to wrap up the chart. 11615116 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Low Country Shuffle—Paul Murtha. This appealing blues chart opens with the rhythm section in a laid-back two-beat style but quickly moves to a rockin' shuffle with plenty of attitude. The style alternates with a straight-ahead swing feel, with each section of the band finding its own space to shine. Included are solos for tenor and trumpet, or really anyone who wants to join the fun. A new key and full ensemble shout chorus drive it home! 11518967 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Midnight Voyage—Joey Calderazzo/arr. Alan Baylock. Here is an outstanding tenor sax feature chart that was composed by pianist Joey Calderazzo, recorded by the late, great Michael Brecker and arranged by Alan Baylock. A haunting medium swing groove- tenor sax as the melody and the solo space, and lead trumpet range is to written high C. A beautiful tune and superb chart on this hard-swinging feature! 10068300 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 62.00 Mississippi Mojo—Joel Vanderheyden. A joyful New Orleans second-line chart that showcases every section of your band through rotating soli passages. A featured open solo section allows for collective improvisation with three horns playing together, adding energy and an authentic stylistic feel. Simple vocal elements and flexible scoring, including an optional sousaphone part, enhance the street-band feel. The infectious groove and sectional variety make it a natural student favorite that works anywhere in your set. 11687545 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 60.00 Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and there is also a substantial soli for the entire saxophone section. Optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and French horn. A terrific introduction to the genius of Mingus! 10041748 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 60.00 Moon River—Henry Mancini/arr. Billy Byers. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time by Basie, this wonderful, easy-swinging Mancini classic is cleverly set in 4/4 to accommodate the Basie band's iconic style. This is a terrific big band chart that belongs in every library right alongside I Can't Stop Loving You; Nice 'n Easy and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There's space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. So nice, and highly recommended! 10530081 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Morning—Clare Fischer/arr. Mike Kamuf. A brilliant tune superbly arranged and played around 110 BPM in the Cuban-flavored guajira groove. Tenor, trumpet, guitar, and trombone initially state the melody, and it builds to a powerful shout chorus. Lead trumpet range is to written high B, and solo space is for trumpet 2, tenor 1, and trombone 1. The auxiliary percussion part is for congas and shaker. Play this chart, I promise you'll love it! (5:40) 11619664 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Moten Swing—Buster & Benny Moten/ arr. Ernie Wilkins. There have been a lot of published charts on this great Ernie Wilkins arrangement, but this is the original version as played and recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra. Moten Swing is possibly the most played piece of music by the Basie band and has been recorded countless times, making it a must-have for any band's library as it exemplifies wonderful roaring ensemble passages with soft, soft sections which will make your band sparkle. This new Finale edition includes a transcribed piano solo throughout, detailed rhythm section parts which are written except during the solos, and clearer, cleaner, more complete parts. Additionally, there is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano. 2387306 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 60.00 Mr. Suit and Tie—Lachlan Davidson. Written as a tribute to a beloved trombonist and composer, this swing chart captures warmth, wit, and effortless style. The trombone section takes center stage in a Thad Jones-influenced setting that balances grit with nuance, celebrating versatility and personality. Heartfelt and joyful, the piece is effective in any performance setting. 11686075 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 My Man Sam (for Sammy Nestico)— Gordon Goodwin. A tribute to the late, great, brilliant arranger and composer Sammy Nestico! This medium swing chart has written or improvised solos for trumpet, alto, tenor, and trombone. Superb writing provides sweet sax solis, great dynamic contrasts, and a wonderful shout chorus. Optional parts include flute, vibes, and more. Sammy would love this chart! 11355036 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Naima—John Coltrane/arr. Craig Skeffington. One of Coltrane's favorites and played by jazz musicians everywhere, this sweet bossa chart is magical. It opens with alto 1 on the written melody, then the sax section, followed by the brass taking the bridge. Features include a very nice, written tenor solo and lead trumpet range to written B-flat above the staff. Perfect for any jazz performance, you'll be delighted with Naima! Highly recommended!
