Alto sax and piano are the designated soloists, with optional solo space also provided for guitar and trombone. The chart closes out with a very powerful shout. 10283457 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 65.00 Celia—Bud Powell/arr. Mark Taylor. Using a combination of hip-hop and up- tempo swing, here's a marvelous take on Bud Powell's bebop classic. A front line of alto, tenor and trumpet are featured off the top followed by an extended soli for the entire trumpet section. Solo space is provided for tenor sax, then a sax soli and ensemble shout round things out in this impressive chart! 10759326 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 60.00 Don't Git Sassy (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra Signature Edition)—Thad Jones. Along with Big Dipper, Don't Git Sassy is one of the most familiar charts from the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra's repertoire. As recorded on their Live at the Village Vanguard album, this spirited shuffle puts proficient bands through the paces. 10754225 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 65.00 Giant Steps—John Coltrane/arr. Mark Taylor. Here's a fresh take on a traditional jazz standard. The style is still up-tempo swing, and the saxes maintain a fair share of the spotlight along with ensemble hits and solo spots for drums; however, there is a brief excursion into 5/4 and a few other meter surprises that help give this outstanding chart a contemporary edge. Highly recommended! 10052510 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 65.00 Groove Merchant (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra Signature Edition)—Jerome Richardson/arr. Thad Jones. As recorded by the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra on their Central Park North album, this great collaboration between band member Jerome Richardson and Thad Jones has become an established standard for better bands. It's a mighty swinger with an edgy melodic line, contemporary voicings, and lots of section work that's guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet. 10754227 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 65.00 A Shade of Jade—Joe Henderson/arr. Alan Baylock. This Joe Henderson jazz standard is a terrific vehicle for more advanced jazz ensembles with solo space for tenor 1 and drum set. The lead trumpet range is up to written high D. At 128 bpm, this hard- swinging chart cooks every measure. High- energy swing and first-class writing! 11198968 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 62.00 Sing, Sing, Sing—Louis Prima/arr. Gordon Goodwin. A few twists and turns added to the original Benny Goodman swing version make this chart a definite crowd and band pleaser. Gordon Goodwin's arrangement features a clarinet part and an alternate alto 1 part in lieu of clarinet. Solo changes are provided for all saxophone parts and clarinet, and the lead trumpet range is to high F-sharp. While not recorded by Goodwin's Big Phat Band, it's a staple of the band's library and is played often in live performances. It's a wonderful rendition of this big band classic! 10311471 Jazz Ensemble . . . . A 70.00 Windows—Chick Corea/arr. Mike Tomaro. It's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentation. 10028063 Jazz Ensemble . . . . E 42.00 Dreams of Distant Lands—George Shutack. An easy jazz ballad puts the spotlight on a featured trumpet soloist. Supported mostly by rhythm section accompaniment and a lot of exposure for your pianist, your players will get a strong introduction to performing with a soloist. Sparse scoring in the wind parts encourages focus on tone, phrasing, control, and musical intimacy. A full- ensemble arrival closes the piece with impact. This is an effective first opportunity to feature a young trumpet player in a clear, approachable ballad setting. 11678940 Jazz Ensemble . . . . E 50.00 Georgia on My Mind—Hoagy Carmichael/ arr.
