Commissioned by the Oneonta, NY high school jazz band, this melodic bossa nova features the alto saxophone throughout, including a written solo (changes are also provided) and solo fills, as well as in the role of lead section player guiding the section through an 8 bar sax soli. Trumpet range to written G. Trombone range to F. 11684569 Jazz Ensemble . . .ME 45.00 Latin Selections Medium Afro Blue—Mongo Santamaria/arr. Michael Mossman. Made famous by John Coltrane, but treated here in a more traditional Afro-Latin style, this is something a little different for jazz ensemble. As with all Mossman charts, the rhythm section is meticulously notated to ensure the correct style. The 3/4 pattern throughout draws heavily on African influences and the melody is masterfully passed from section to section. A single pentatonic scale works for the solo section, making this a wonderful vehicle for involving many soloists. 2478928 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Beethoven in Cuba—arr. Steve Shanley. If Beethoven had visited Cuba, his Seventh Symphony might have sounded like this! High-energy Latin grooves collide with familiar classical material in this jazz band chart built around thematic material from Beethoven's Seventh. Driving rhythms and colorful ensemble writing keep momentum high, and the solo section sits comfortably for developing improvisers. The playful stylistic mashup feels fresh. A smart choice for high school groups looking to stretch style awareness and improvisation skills while keeping rehearsals fun and engaging. 11686528 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Blue Bossa—Kenny Dorham/arr. Mark Taylor. One of the essential Latin jazz classics, this catchy tune moves and grooves in Mark Taylor's spicy arrangement. It really makes the most of the Latin rhythmic feel, with exciting solo space and well-articulated ensemble backups. Very cool... and hot! 2475702 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Body and Soul—arr. Michele Fernandez. Brazilian samba drive shapes this jazz chart that weaves heavy Latin-style syncopation with contrasting shifts into swing. Optional flute adds color, and trumpet players double on Latin percussion to deepen the stylistic authenticity. The groove changes and rhythmic interplay make it an effective, hands-on way to teach feel, style, and ensemble coordination at the high school level. 11678462 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Chili Today, Hot Tamale—Rick Hirsch. A great title and great chart! Chili Today, Hot Tamale is set in a samba groove in cut time at around 90 bpm. It's accessible to a solid easy to medium grade level, there are written solos for trombone 1 and tenor sax 1, optional parts for expanded instrumentations, and the trumpet 1 range goes to written A above the staff with optional lower notes. This chart is fun to play and loaded with energy! 10452086 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 48.00 Coconut Champagne—Denis DiBlasio/arr. Victor Lopez. Victor Lopez' arrangement of this great tune by Denis DiBlasio is a more accessible version than the original. At a medium grade level with an upbeat samba groove, everybody gets some action with the classic Maynard Ferguson trumpet solo harmonized for the trumpet section in a playable range. There is a sax section soli that can also be a solo for bari sax or any saxophone. An optional percussion part will complete the package. You'll dig this chart... it soars, it excites! 10277765 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 52.00 El Alma de la Banda (The Soul of the Band)—Gordon Goodwin. It's soulful, Latin, and full of energy – phenomenal jazz writing while still being accessible to well- developed high school jazz programs. All instrumentalists enjoy hip and memorable licks. The lead trumpet range is to written high C above the staff, with solo space (suggested written solo) for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet, and trombones 1 and 2. Auxiliary percussion plus optional flute and vibes complete this gem. 11511948 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Feels So Good—Chuck Mangione/arr. Victor Lopez. Only rarely does a jazz tune cross over to the pop charts the way this Chuck Mangione classic did back in the seventies! Flugelhorn solo on the 1st trumpet part is featured throughout with the distinctive melody and then with a written or ad lib solo along with a tenor solo. The flugelhorn solo range is up to an optional written high C, but the solo is cued on the 1st tenor part as well. Victor's arrangement brings this contemporary gem within the range of the developing trumpet player without losing any of the hip appeal of the original. Here's a perennially appealing, samba/rock chart that will provide outstanding performance opportunities for your band and soloist! Highly recommended! 2480787 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 54.00 I Wanna Be Like You—Robert & Richard Sherman/arr. John Wasson. What happens when one of the hottest swing bands in the land cuts loose on a Disney classic? Cranked up excitement! Big Bad Voodoo Daddy takes a mambo spin on I Wan'na Be Like You from "The Jungle Book," and with lots of tutti writing, your band will get a real powerhouse sound! 2433704 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)—Duke Ellington/arr. Ralph Ford. You may think this very clever chart is all swing, but it begins as Latin then alternates with a swing feel. The tempo is bright at around 190-200 bpm with suggested solos for trumpet and tenor sax, a few piano montunos, and a big shout chorus leading to a huge ending closing this fine chart appropriately. Additional wind parts and a vibes part are included for optional expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10756380 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Jazz en la Playa—Jeff Jarvis. Latin salsa style defines this chart for high school jazz ensemble, opening with a rhythm section groove before brass and saxophone statements build to a full-ensemble impact. Trumpets lead the melody, followed by saxes, with a key-changed solo section that includes an optional flute feature. A final key change at the end gives the tune a climactic closing statement. Clear form supports style, balance, and ensemble timing, making this a great choice for teaching salsa feel, rhythms, and articulations. 11678947 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 60.00 Just Friends—John Klenner/arr. Scott Ragsdale. The jazz classic Just Friends is set here as a trombone section feature with a samba groove. This superb chart with a lyrical melody also features written or ad lib solo space for trombones 1 and 2, excellent and accessible trombone solis, and a lead trumpet range to written A above the staff. Give the 'bones some of the spotlight with this exceptional arrangement! 10311435 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 52.00 Land of Make Believe—arr. Mark Taylor.
