Noctalgia—Andrew David Perkins. As
humanity loses its connection to the night
sky, a new word has emerged: noctalgia,
the grief of losing sight of the stars.
Cultures have sung to the constellations
for millennia, weaving myths and melodies
under their glow. Today, light pollution and
satellite constellations dim that cosmic
stage. This music answers that loss: lyrical
and rich with unique textures, it echoes the
infinite and harmonizes with the heavens.
Preserve the wonder of the night through
sound before the silence of the stars
becomes permanent.

Northern Lights—Yukiko Nishimura.
The northern lights - aurora borealis - are
the subject of this stunning piece which
weaves together individual musical lines to
create a beautiful texture and sonority. The
waves of light are similar to the waveform
of sound frequencies, and these linear
musical sequences depict that concept. A
spectacular work that will captivate your
students. (3:50)

O Magnum Mysterium—Morten Lauridsen/
trans. H. Robert Reynolds. This fine
arrangement brings Morton Lauridsen's
reverent masterwork to the concert band
stage. Many will know this stunning work
from the magnificent choral rendition
that has become a staple of the choral
repertoire. A serene and expressive
composition, the fluid lines and lovely
harmonies will both challenge and engage
your performers. We are proud to give this
our highest recommendation.

Oh No Ringo! (Mvt. 3 from "Cosmic
Harmonies" for Solo Oboe and Band)—
Robert W. Smith. The final movement of
Robert W. Smith's concert for oboe and
band, Cosmic Harmonies. The music fuels
a playful clash of personalities and styles,
pairing the featured oboe with a rock-
influenced soundscape. The result offers
a vivid, high-energy feature, available in
two difficulty levels, that is engaging for the
soloist, the band, and the audience.

The Old Boatman—Florence Price/arr.
Dana Perna. Originally written for piano,
this is a lovely concert band setting of this
classic piece. The melody is a moving bit
of pure Americana, and the harmonies
and scoring are lush and full. The perfect
way to display your band's musicianship
as well as expose them to the work of this
magnificent composer.

Old Stomping Grounds—Frank McKinney.
With rhythmic accompaniment and
energetic melodic lines, this animated
concert band work contains elements of
early American barn dances, followed
by a calmer section that develops into a
moderate jig. After these lighter textures,
the frenzied dance theme returns as the
piece races to an exciting conclusion. The
opening melody is a derivative of an old
Irish fiddle tune known by many names,
including Listowel Hornpipe. Evoking
feelings of nostalgia and familiarity, this
unique work is a great exercise in technical
development for high school players.

frenetic energy contrasted with a deeply
moving lyrical section, this gives young
musicians the opportunity to explore
wide ranges of expression as all parts
of the ensemble have featured areas
and moments to shine. An ideal concert
opener or closer, the work's title has a
dual meaning, which deepens the musical
connection between performers and
audiences. (3:15)

On to Excellence—Robert Sheldon. For
high school concert band, this overture-
style work offers dramatic stylistic contrast
and sustained engagement across all parts
of the ensemble, making it well suited to
festival or competition use. A bold opening
fanfare gives way to lyrical writing, energetic
allegro sections, and a broad, dramatic
close. Varied textures and styles keep all
parts active while supporting expressive
and technical teaching goals.
