Inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, this eclectic work delves into the mind of a character who has been forever trapped in time and has lost a grip on reality after living a never-ending tea party. Infused with contemporary harmonies, rhythms, and melodic figures, it inspires the imagination. (3:30) 11568686 String Orchestra . . . M 70.00 Mariners Awake!—R. Scott Whittington. Lower-position writing keeps technique manageable while allowing students to focus on articulation, blend, and crisp rhythms. It's a fun, stylistically rich option that lets the whole ensemble lean into the maritime soundscape with confidence. 11673407 String Orchestra . . . M 65.00 Masquerade Dance—Cindy Hill. M 75.00 Metronome—Vincent Kantorski. An engaging concert piece that can also be used as a rhythmic accuracy etude for string orchestra students. The primary educational goal of this etude is for the performers to maintain a metronomically precise tempo without speeding up or slowing down - a requisite skill for any musical ensemble. Since the piece is in duple meter, the accents on the first and second primary beats of each measure should give a feeling of students practicing to a musical metronome. With alternating passages between pizzicato and arco for all instruments, your students will get an engaging workout in technique as well. 11686219 String Orchestra . . . M 60.00 Moonglow—Cooper Ford. A lyrical piece in 6/8 time invites listeners into a world of calm and grace. Ancient drama and mystery unfold in this work for high school orchestra that tells the story of the lost city of Pompeii. Expressive solo passages for every instrument open the piece before a sudden surge of fast, intense sixteenth- note motion shared across the ensemble drives the music forward. Sharp stylistic contrasts strengthen articulation, unity, and ensemble awareness. A compelling high school selection for teaching a variety of techniques while taking audiences on a vivid musical journey. 11680762 String Orchestra . . . M 65.00 Mysterious Forces—Michael Hopkins. Fast and rhythmically energetic, this piece in E minor features all sections on melodic material. Violin, viola, and cello parts are playable in first position. Double basses have a few shifts to half, second, and third positions. Cellos have a few extensions to B-flat on the A string, and violins and violas have a few spots with low first finger and high third finger. This is a great piece to work on articulations and bow speed. The melody features the slur-two-separate-two bowing. The music features both short staccato bow strokes and longer legato bow strokes, plus lots of dynamic contrasts and opportunities for learning about phrasing and shaping musical lines. The Odyssey is a timeless Greek tale that is relevant to every generation, and Soon Hee Newbold has created a thrilling musical depiction for your strings to play! Odysseus' return home from the Trojan War was filled with obstacles and encounters with the Lotus Eaters, the Cyclops, the Sorceress Circe, and the enchanting Sirens, among others. Multiple effects include col legno, mutes, and harmonics (which are all explained in detail in the performance notes). The incredible symphonic nature of the entire work gives your orchestra a huge sound without the need for any winds or percussion. It's a thrilling addition to any performance. 2701827 String Orchestra . . . M 75.00 The Old Boatman—Florence Price/arr. Dana Perna. This lyric work is a shining presentation of Price's signature style. The opening G major theme modulates to A major, featuring brief solos for violin and cello. Although short, the piece requires mature musicality, shifting skills, and vibrato from your ensemble, with moments of delicate dynamics and rubato. 11206042 String Orchestra . . . M 45.00 On the Precipice—Cooper Ford. Perched on the musical edge, this Grade 3.5 orchestra work channels urgency and reflection through fast-paced 6/8 motion. Eighth-note figures weave through every section as duple and triple rhythmic figures collide, demanding confident independence while keeping momentum constant. Shifting in violin 1, cello, and bass, plus a closing key change, expands expressive depth. Well suited to high school groups ready for a dramatic, rhythm-driven concert challenge. 11679137 String Orchestra . . . M 65.00 Orchid—Yukiko Nishimura. This lyrical piece has a warm and lovely chord progression that brings delicate emotion to the incredibly beautiful melody line. Your string orchestra will perform expressively as they play from the heart. (3:30) 11400578 String Orchestra . . . M 50.00 Peace for Humankind—Anthony Susi. A musical plea to humanity to live in harmony with one another. The composition is based on the pitches E, A, and C from the word "peace," with F from the tonal center D added to form an ancient Greek Phrygian pentatonic scale to represent the letter P (since the Renaissance, this has been called the Dorian mode). The phrase is spelled out calmly from the start with the pitches in order and gradually grows in intensity as the motif is passed around the orchestra. The dramatic tremolos, suspended dissonances, and swells reflect the heartache and suffering as a result of contentious conflicts in our world. The motif morphs as the work progresses but returns to its original order at the tranquil conclusion to signify hope for restored peace within and between nations. 11689865 String Orchestra . . . M 65.00 Procession of the Mystics—John Atteberry. Invite your listeners and developing string students into a shadowed world where distant drums echo across ancient landscapes and enigmatic figures emerge from the haze. Chromatic harmonies, shimmering tremolos, and eerie sul ponticello textures create a soundscape that feels both otherworldly and alive. With optional percussion adding depth and tension, student orchestras can conjure a haunting soundtrack worthy of a magical realm. 11688746 String Orchestra . . .
