greatest contribution to the genre of serious
choral literature. Performance options

Requiem—Michael John Trotta. Requiem
is a powerfully appealing, tender exploration
of love and loss. Grounded in tradition
while incorporating a present-day harmonic
language, two Gregorian chant motives are
interwoven throughout the lush harmonies
and soaring melodies. The level of difficulty
is within the reach of many choirs and most
orchestral players, making it an attractive
choice for church or concert hall. A new
translation of the traditional text makes it
possible to perform the work entirely in
English or entirely in Latin. Whether your
choir sings a major work twice a year or is
looking to try a multimovement work for
the first time, this is an excellent choice.
The work has a flexible duration (28-40
min.) depending on the inclusion of the
optional solo and/or a cappella movements.
Accomampaniment may be piano or organ
only, organ and winds, or chamber orchestra.

Requiem for Colour (A Journey Through
Lament and Joy)—Jeffery L. Ames.
Honoring the lives and legacies of enslaved
people from 1619 to 1865 as well as
contemporary Black martyrs who sacrificed
for equality and freedom, this powerful
choral and orchestral multimovement work
is a strong statement of the resilience and
complexity of Black American history.
Blending idiomatic Black musical genres
with Western European composition styles,
it creates a unique and profound musical
journey in 13 movements that traces
the Black experience from West Africa
through the Middle Passage, slavery, and
sharecropping in the South to the civil rights
movement and today's ongoing fight against
racism and injustice. It features soprano
and tenor soloists, a rapper, and a narrator
along with the choir and full orchestra
supplemented with African percussion. The
libretto incorporates narratives from enslaved
people, sharecroppers, and contemporary
activists, offering an aesthetic experience
that both commemorates and challenges.

Requiem for the Living—Dan Forrest.
A significant setting of the Requiem,
scored for mixed choir and orchestra with
solos for boy soprano (mezzo-soprano)
and tenor. Combining both liturgical and
non-liturgical texts, this powerful five-

of meaningful expression, from a biting
essay on the vanity and pain of existence,
to a plea for mercy, and finally a
celebration of eternal light. Full orchestra
and chamber orchestra accompaniments
are available on rental from the publisher.

The Sacred Veil—Eric Whitacre. Written
with poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, this
twelve-movement work chronicles the rich
life of Tony and his late wife Julie Silvestri
and their journey through cancer. Hauntingly
beautiful and expressive, this work contains a
cappella movements as well as movements
accompanied by piano and cello. The
development of the story is expressed through
repeated motives and tone painting of the text.
Commissioned, premiered, and recorded
by the Los Angeles Master Chorale, this
memorable tribute is rich in texture, emotion,
and beauty. The third movement Home, the
eleventh movement You Rise, I Fall, and the
twelfth movement Child of Wonder are all
also available separately, as well as an ePrint
bundle that contains all three titles.

Sunrise Mass—Ola Gjeilo. This spiritually-
uplifting extended work, neither expressly
sacred nor secular, uses ancient texts
even though the titles of the movements
are in English: I. The Spheres (Kyrie); II.
Sunrise (Gloria); III. The City (Credo); IV.
Identity & The Ground (Sanctus). The
four movements develop from a sense of
the cosmos to an affirmation of the earth,
from the echo of The Spheres in the first
movement to the final reassuring themes of
Identity & The Ground. A beautiful work for
advanced high school choirs and beyond.

A Vision Unfolding (A Five-Movement
Work)—Kyle Pederson/arr. David Maddux.
Centered around themes of social justice,
this extended work invites the choir and
audience into a compelling vision of a world
rooted in compassion, freedom, inclusivity,
and justice. Each of the five movements
is accompanied by piano, while some
also include optional violin, trumpet, and
snare drum. Spoken-word poetry written
by Shanelle Gabriel is interwoven before,
between, and within movements, though
choirs are also welcome to perform their
own spoken-word narration throughout
the work. In addition to Gabriel's poetry,
other texts are by Langston Hughes, Walt
Whitman, Robert Bode, and Kyle Pederson.
Movements, which may be performed as a
complete set or purchased separately,
include Reach Down, Lord; Beat! Drums!;
All of Me; Light Transforms the Darkness
and I Dream a World.
