Using a blend of original and familiar
music, this telling of the Christmas
story is offered from the vantage
point that God's ways are not
typically our ways. Featuring all of
the hallmarks of popular musicals,
from beloved carols and a scripturally
based narration to opportunities for
congregational participation and an
optional full orchestration, this work
also boasts the distinctive choral
writing of two fine composers, an
upbeat spiritual movement, and
short optional female or male solos.

"The Heart of Christmas" tells the
timeless story that we remember
each year in a creative, profound
way—by probing the hearts of those
most directly involved in St. Luke's
account of that first Christmas. This
touching construct is complemented
by Choplin's masterful use of a variety
of musical styles from blues and
bluegrass to the warmly melodic and
chorally traditional. Three narrators
propel the scripture-based narrative,
while two or three soloists and optional
congregational participation enhance
the choir. The result is a musical,
worshipful, and very accessible musical

Sensitive underscoring continues the
musical flow between movements
as male and female narrators share
the beloved Christmas story. Mark's
keyboard accompaniment is a
sheer delight and offers a wonderful
complement to the voices. He has also
provided two orchestrations to serve
choirs of all sizes and needs. Songs

Peace; Song of the Angels; We Three
Kings of Orient Are; Cradle Medley; O
Holy Night; Closing Medley; Song of

The range of musical styles
reflects the various moods of the
angels' scenes, weaving a colorful
musical tapestry of angel portraits.
The program closes exuberantly
with the congregation joining
to sing Angels We Have Heard
on High and Hark! the Herald
Angels Sing. This work will fit
easily into a worship service or
special program. Accompaniment
can be provided by piano,
chamber orchestra or CD track.
