The prophets had foretold the birth
and the people had anticipated it for
generations. Patiently they waited. And
waited. They longed for their Messiah,
their King, Emmanuel, God with us! The
incarnation: the birth of of Jesus, the
Christ, was the divine fulfillment of a
sacred promise. The prayers of God's
people became a holy introit — pleading
and praying for the coming of Messiah!
The prayers are finally heard, the
promises kept. All of Heaven and earth
rejoice! A young couple makes a journey
to that ancient town of promise under
Caesar's orders, yes, but in the perfect
fullness of the Father's time. Unheard
of events begin to unfold; shepherds
running, kings seeking. Finally, a Baby
is born; miraculous Baby, ordinary Baby,
Child of Heaven and Son of Man! The
promise has come. His life will be like no
other. And when His earthly ministry ends,
a new prayer with ancient roots springs
forth, Come, O Come, Messiah King!

What can we say that would adequately
describe the glory of God? How could we
ever possibly define it, ever fathom it or
explain it? The heavens declare this glory,
yet the heavens are not enough to contain
it. And those who've encountered it have
found themselves at once awe-struck,
then terrified, then astonished! Finally,
a joy unspeakable consumes those to
whom the God of eternity has revealed
Himself...and His glory. And make no
mistake about it: once God displays His
glory, a new standard of life is established,
and by this standard all other values
in life must be forever measured. The
accounts handed down to us in the word
of God proclaim it; the testimony of the
saints gone before us affirms it; and
the experience of our own lives gives
credence to it, an encounter with the glory
of God always leads us to a response of
worship. This, then, is your invitation to
respond to the glory of God. Let it speak
to you and fill you, let it change you.
