based on Greg Gilpin's spirited and fun choral setting of the traditional
spiritual. In the handbell arrangement, the accompaniment makes
extensive use of bells malleted on the table reminiscent of a train on the
tracks, while the melody is rung above. A train whistle is optional, but
adds such a fun element to the arrangement. There is a key change
in the middle, but it shouldn't cause any "train wrecks!" The 3 octave
version is as musically satisfying as the 4 or 5 octave versions. Ringers

I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light

The latest addition to the Flexible Favorites series for bells and optional
instruments, Kathleen Thomerson's popular hymn tune HOUSTON has been
treated simply and delicately with minimal bell changes and techniques,
making this a very accessible arrangement. A short original melody
comprises the introduction, interludes and ending. In the second stanza,
the upper treble bells are played with mallets, while the hymn tune is
played by the lower treble and bass. The optional C or Bb instrument
makes a lovely addition and adds a complementary warmth and depth
to the whole performance, and since 2-3 and 3-5 octave editions are
available, this piece is perfect for festival use as well as for worship.
