n Act Your Age—Gordon Goodwin/arr. Peter Blair.
Arranger Peter Blair has taken the hot Gordon
Goodwin chart Act Your Age and revised it for
developing players. "Slick and funky" describes this
very accessible arrangement. There are written solos
for 1st alto (cued for 2nd alto) and a 1st trumpet solo
cued in all four trumpet parts. The lead trumpet has a
written A above the staff, but technically this chart is
not difficult and will come together quickly to earn a
spot in your program. The band will love it, too! Highly
recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation.

4 Arnge Drank (Orange Juice with Attitude)—
Paul Baker. Wow... orange drink with an attitude!
Texas writer Paul Baker presents an outstanding
funk chart beginning with a piano riff to set up the
rhythm groove before the trumpet and altos hit with
the melody. Trombones and low saxes support with
counterpoint. After the trombones take it through the
bridge the saxes again state the melody in a dramatic
stop time section that moves into the trumpet and
trombone solos. After a drum solo, the bari and bass
trombone shine as they set the funky foundation for
the shout chorus. A return of the piano riff sets up the
final melodic statement and dramatic coda. Trumpet
range to written High C. Trombone to G. Pure fun,
and highly recommended!

4 Baby That's What I Need (a.k.a. Walk Tall)—
arr. Vince Gassi. This tune is better known as Walk
Tall and was originally performed by Cannonball
Adderley's quintet. It has a gospel flavored R&B
groove and the features include a lead trumpet
range to written F top line, a written tenor sax solo
that trades with the ensemble. Playable with optional
reduced or expanded instrumentations, it's a very
cool chart!

4 Backrow Politics—Gordon Goodwin/arr. Peter
Blair. Peter Blair has adapted this chart for young
players from Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band
chart and it sizzles, yet is accessible! A trumpet
section feature with a straight-eighth groove, there
are available written trumpet solos for all four parts
and the 1st trumpet range is to written G on top of
the staff. Optional parts are included for expanded
instrumentation. An exciting chart for sure! Highly

4 Barbeque Sauce—Mike Carubia. This funk chart
roars right from the beginning with an attention-
grabbing introduction followed by blues-based
melodies with a hip, funky feel. The solos are a
piece of cake with only two chords or one scale to
negotiate. Any player can solo with the solo scale
options included in all parts. Written ranges: Trumpet
1 to G; Trombone to F; Alto Sax to D. An optional
flute part is included. If you liked this writer's Buffalo
Wings, you'll love his Barbeque Sauce! Highly
recommended!

H Chameleon—Herbie Hancock/arr. Lopez. Herbie
Hancock for the developing band? Yes! From
Hancock's famous "Headhunter" recording, here is
a great opportunity to play the biggest jazz-rock hit
of all time. The melody is first played by alto, tenor,
trumpet and trombone, then the trumpet section.
Next up is a flexible, open solo section with a solo
line written for all the winds so anybody or everyone
can solo! The top note for lead trumpet is written G on
top of the staff. Super-cool chart! Optional expanded
instrumentation.

H The Chicken—Alfred James Ellis/arr. Berg. If you've
got a strong bassist, this is your showstopper! This
chart, made famous by bass virtuoso Jaco Pastorius,
gets kicking with a killer gospel chorale, but is soon
interrupted by one of the funkiest bass lines ever
played! Soon the entire band is in on it with a Tower
of Power style sound that is sure to impress everyone
listening! Highly recommended!

haven't, you'd better get started! Definitely a hip,
groovin' tune that better bands will get into!

n Crunchy Frog—Gordon Goodwin. Bass and
guitar kick off this original Gordon Goodwin chart
with a captivating rhythmic pattern before the full
ensemble settles in with the funky melody. There's
plenty of ensemble writing, some in unison and
some in harmony, and solo space for all winds with
suggested or improv solos. The lead trumpet range
goes to written G-sharp on top of the staff, the
tempo is around 115 beats per minute, and optional
parts are included for expanded instrumentations.
This is accessible Gordon Goodwin material that is
right in the pocket for this grade level! Our highest
recommendation!
