H A Festival of Hymns (The Writers Tell

Hal Hopson
has created a unique festival service for choir
and congregation that is intended to enhance the
understanding of hymns by all generations. is an
historical overview of hymnody, featuring eleven
significant hymn writers, from fourth-century
Bishop Ambrose though twentieth-century Sydney
Carter. Each hymn writer tells their own story in the
first person, after which a representative hymn is
sung. Children's choirs and other vocal ensembles
can easily be incorporated into the services,
allowing all choirs to participate in this wonderful
experience. Among the eleven writers included are:
Martin Luther, John Calvin, Isaac Watts, Charles
Wesley, Catherine Winkworth, Fanny Crosby,
Sydney Carter and others. The hymns included
