It's classic Basie with a soft, swinging melody, room for solos, and an "in-your-face" shout section which then returns to the quiet melody with a gentle ending. In this edited version, the solos are written out for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano, the high brass parts have been modified, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated. Bob Curnow. This great Oliver Nelson tune from the early '60s was originally recorded by a small group. Here, it's arranged for big band in a very hip way! Set in an easy swing feel, this chart has a bluesy shuffle feel while providing a nice, unexpected variation to the standard blues changes. There's solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. In this edited version, the solos are written out with changes provided, the high trumpet parts are eliminated, and the saxophone rhythms are made easier to play. Often recorded and performed by jazz artists, this tuneful standard by Duke Pearson is skillfully arranged here in an up-tempo swing style. The solo duties are shared between trumpet and tenor sax with suggested solos and chord/scale sheets provided for improvising.
