Although the keys are featured, this full-sounding arrangement has plenty of licks for the rest of the band, including a section for written or improvised solos. Then the brass join in and the full ensemble plays to a basic 12-bar blues solo section for any instrument. A straight ahead swing tempo drives some really great licks, including a really hot unison band line that sounds much harder than it really is. A big shout chorus and a short drum solo at the end round things out, and there's an open solo section with room for any of your players to stretch out. It includes just the right elements to give it a jazz flavor, yet maintains the dignity and reverence of the original. While it is harmonically jazzy, it is rhythmically traditional and can serve as accompaniment for audience singing. It is also playable with reduced instrumentation.
