This great tune by Cannonball Adderley combines a soulful, straight-eighth groove with a swing feel at a tempo anywhere from 138 to 160 beats per minute. Arranger Mike Kamuf delivers another great chart that is super-fun to play, easy to rehearse and very effective. Features include written or ad lib solos for alto 1 and trumpet 2, lead trumpet range to written G, well notated rhythm section parts, and a killer shout chorus. It's a terrific chart! This very playable rendition of the early blues classic opens with a sultry trumpet solo and then breaks into a medium tempo shuffle with a call and response section between the solo trumpet and ensemble. Also featured are a nice sax section soli, an open solo section on everybody's favorite Bb blues changes, and a break strain. Playing jazz should be fun and this carefully constructed arrangement for younger players will certainly add the "fun" element! Alto and trumpet take the melody at the top, then the rest of the band joins in for a lively, swingin' romp! Here's a great introduction to this revered standard! 2481662 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 4 The Second Time Around (Edited Version) arr. Billy Byers. Much like the arrangements of Quincy Jones, Billy Byers provided the Basie band with some of their best music ever recorded. From their album Frankly Speaking: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra, Byers' arrangement of The Second Time Around is a slow swingin' masterpiece. This is a great dynamic chart that will stretch the group to play both very loud and very soft, and is definitely an all-time favorite. In this edited version, the high brass parts have been eliminated, the trumpet and piano solos have been written out, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated. Every band should have this in their library! 10455884 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 Shiny StockingsFrank Foster/arr. Sammy Nestico. Adapted from the version he penned for The Count Basie Orchestra, Sammy Nestico brings the signature style and familiar strains to this fabulous version for developing bands. The solo spots for piano are completely notated and the tutti writing for full ensemble is the best there is! 10052540 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 H Sing, Sing, SingLouie Prima/arr. Victor Lopez. Yep, this is the Sing, Sing, Sing you know and love, made famous by Gene Krupa and the Benny Goodman Orchestra, only arranged for young players by Victor Lopez. The classic drum solo that can be opened up for as much excitement as the crowd can stand, along with a written-out tenor solo, reasonable brass ranges and lots of meaty ensembles keep this great chart exciting. It will also sound full with reduced instrumentation or with the optional, non-jazz band parts. It's still a showstopper! Highly recommended! 2702806 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 44.00 n Six by SixDoug Beach. All the elements of a great opener or closer are packed into this medium easy blues chart...a strong melody, unison ensemble lines, an open solo section, and a shout chorus that starts soft and builds to a roar. Though improvisation is encouraged, a supplemental sheet provides written solos in all transpositions. The rhythm section parts are notated with chords cued. 2470052 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 n Six String ShuffleScott Stanton. Has your guitar player been waiting for a chance to be in the spotlight? Then this cookin' blues shuffle chart is just what you need! The guitar helper part includes both a written solo and a tablature version of the same solo. Solid background figures by the ensemble give this a great big sound that will make your budding B.B. Kings and Eric Claptons sound like superstars! Highly recommended! 2478481 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 SolarMiles Davis/arr. Rick Stitzel. One of the most enduring compositions from Miles Davis' early career is this medium swing tune recorded on the 1954 album Walkin'. Rick Stitzel uses some nifty phrase extensions in the beginning, then alternates the full ensemble with statements by a small group in this terrific chart for younger players. The solo space is for trumpet and tenor sax with suggested solos and chord/scale sheets in all keys included. 10297515 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 l Something to Smile AboutBob Turner. This "two feel" original swing chart is really something to smile about and sounds as if it could have been a standard written in the 30's or 40's! The chart is basically a conversation between alto sax, trombone and piano with three distinct melodies all happening at the same time. The piano solo breaks as well as the solo section can be improvised or played as written. A sax soli section after the solos includes a trombone player with the sax section adding to the quality of the sound. 10454532 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 4 South Street BluesJeff Jarvis. Good time swingin' is the best way to describe this medium- easy chart set at around 138 bpm. Whether your ensemble has some experience or is in the developmental stages, this chart is suitable for all performance situations, particularly festivals. All horn sections get to shine, including trumpet and trombone section solis without rhythm, and a sax section soli taking it to a discreet finale. All instruments have interesting parts to play, the parts are well articulated, the ranges are reasonable, and the rhythm section parts are notated with chord symbols provided. Due to the accessible blues progression, everyone is encouraged to get into the spotlight using the provided solo sheets. Plenty of solid tutti ensemble scoring is featured in this arrangement for small group of Sonny Rollins' familiar Latin standard. The solo section can be opened up for any player and a tasty unison ensemble chorus follows. Suggested solos and scale/chord sheets are included. Highly recommended! Instrumentation: 3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone plus rhythm section. Optional additional parts are included for alto, tenor & trombone. 10098775 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 H Star Spangled Bannerarr. Paul Clark. Although this piece is not usually associated with jazz bands, this arrangement works so well it can appropriately be included in any jazz concert. It's also invaluable to have in the files for those "emergency" situations where a jazz group is called upon to perform our National Anthem. It includes just the right elements to give it a jazz flavor, yet maintains the dignity and reverence of the original. While it is harmonically jazzy, it is rhythmically traditional and can serve as accompaniment for audience singing. It is also playable with reduced instrumentation. If your jazz ensemble plays for basketball games, this is perfect. A wise investment for all jazz programs! Highly recommended! 10050282 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 Stompin' at the SavoyBenny Goodman/arr. Mike Lewis. Feature your bass player! Arranger Mike Lewis has taken this classic Benny Goodman swing tune and turned it into an easy, melodic showcase for the bass. Mike also provides solo space with written solos for 1st tenor sax and piano. The brass ranges are modest and the chart really swings from beginning to end! Don't let the year go by without playing this one that sounds great with electric or acoustic bass. Superb chart! 2702807 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 44.00 4 Summertime (from Porgy and Bess)George Gershwin/arr. Michael Sweeney. Set in a distinctive medium swing/shuffle groove, Michael Sweeney's version for younger jazz bands presents a contemporary styling of this classic song from "Porgy and Bess." Mixing a variety of ensemble textures, a stop time solo section, and briefly slipping into a new key during the final chorus, this is sure to be a standout for festival or casual concert use. Suggested solos are included for tenor sax and trumpet and chord/scale sheets in all keys are available. Made famous by The Blues Brothers, this hard-hitting blues classic is sure to become an instant favorite with jazz bands and audiences. A driving shuffle groove and solid scoring for the entire ensemble are featured throughout in this great chart that will become a staple of your library! Highly recommended! 10343798 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n Take FiveDave Brubeck/arr. Mike Lewis. Take the most famous 5/4 jazz tune ever written and combine it with a flawless and playable arrangement for developing jazz band and you've got a chart that should be in everybody's library! Dave Brubeck managed to make the 5/4 meter sound like the most natural thing in the world, and that's the way it plays, too. Who would've thought that young players could experience Brubeck's "Third Stream" jazz? 2381705 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 38.00 n That's How We RollGordon Goodwin/arr. Peter Blair. Arranger Peter Blair gets it right on this recent Gordon Goodwin hit featuring accessible rhythms, written or improvised solos for alto and trumpet and a catchy melody. While not a trumpet section feature, the trumpets get most of the spotlight melody lines with lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff with one last note A above the staff. This great shuffle chart also includes parts for optional expanded instrumentation. It's good to play Goodwin! Highly recommended! 10303571 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 44.00 4 The ThemeMiles Davis/arr. Paul Murtha. Miles Davis often used this signature riff tune to close his concert sets. Using background figures and other elements from the original recordings, Paul Murtha has skillfully assembled a full-blown chart for younger jazz ensembles. The opening section trades the theme between trumpet and tenor sax, and eventually the entire ensemble gets into the act. Highly recommended! 10461374 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n Things Ain't What They Used to BeMercer Ellington/arr. Rich Sigler. This is a jazz classic that every band should have in their library. The chart is a swing shuffle played at around 116 bpm and has a very familiar and catchy melody that flows smoothly from section to section. Also featured are written out solos for alto sax 1 and trumpet 2 and a lead trumpet range to written F-sharp top line. Optional parts are included for expanded instrumentation. This medium tempo blues chart is the perfect vehicle to feature three of your "bad cats" on bari sax, trumpet and trombone. Three Bad Cats is scored for young jazz band success! 10367433 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Two Degrees East, Three Degrees WestJohn Lewis/arr. Mark Taylor. Made famous by the Modern Jazz Quartet, this medium swinger is a great addition to the literature for young jazz players. The chart opens with a small group of two saxes, trumpet, trombone and guitar, but the full ensemble quickly gets in the game. The blues format makes it easy for anyone to solo, and there's a nice full ensemble "send off" at the beginning of the solo section. Suggested solos and chord/scale sheets in all keys are included. This is a great example of quality writing for young jazz players! 10317266 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n Until I Met You (Corner Pocket)arr. Mark Taylor. The classic Count Basie sound is right here in this awesome chart for developing jazz ensembles! Complete with some signature licks and ensemble shouts that made the Basie band famous, this is simply not to be missed. This up-tempo swinger has it all; jazzy and driving sax lines, strong brass hooks, and a powerhouse shout chorus to top it all off.
