Being a riff-based chart, there are opportunities to play the written backgrounds or have students create their own. A driving shout section leads to a short open drum solo before the final chord. The trumpet range is to written high C and the trombone range is to G, and the tempo is about 172 bpm. Named after jazz organist, Rhoda Scott, this is Mike Carubia's slightly easier take on a Thad Jones classic. This writing is typical Thad and was a favorite of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra and it is still played by the Village Vanguard Orchestra. The tempo is around 128-132 bpm, the form is AABA and the chart displays classic Thad Jones' harmonic and melodic approach for composing for big band. Included are suggested solos and an optional flute part. Written ranges: Trumpet 1 to A; Trombone to G; Alto Sax to D. The lead 'bone range is to high Bb and lead trumpet is to written B above the staff. This is an accessible and terrific chart to showcase your trombones. Highly recommended! Mike Tomaro. Recorded during the pinnacle of Miles Davis' career, Seven Steps to Heaven has become an iconic jazz standard and one of Miles' best known tunes. Keeping the up-tempo swing style of the original, this chart soars through the chord changes with skill and fluency, and features solos for trumpet and tenor. This incredible transcription is as close as you're going to come to the original (which included clarinet and less than a full compliment of brass). This chart is scored for a standard 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm, but aside from that, it is the original as played by Benny Goodman. Bryan Kidd. Experience this hard-bop style work that really gets things kickin'. The saxes open with the famous head and this chart has been made more accessible, yet remains true to the original.
