Optional high and low 1st trumpet parts and an optional flute part add to the usefulness of this very cool chart! 10458686 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Another Look at the Diminished ChordBill Liston. Here's a hot original for advancing groups that is exactly what you need to open your next concert or festival performance. Unique in a good way, it features some rhythmic stop-time with effective backgrounds working together as it combines elements of 1930s swing with a fresh harmonic approach. Extra-special is a fugal passage that builds tension and then releases with an all-out big fat swing section! The ranges and technical requirements are reasonable, and tenor sax and trumpet are featured soloists with "as is" or improvised solos. You won't want to miss this one! Highly recommended! 10093850 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 n Bad Ol' BluesMike Carubia. Sometimes "the blues" can be a very good thing! Mike Carubia's Bad Ol' Blues is simply one of those charts that's down 'n dirty and makes the players and audiences happy by getting into the spirit. The chart begins with a slow, bluesy, unison sax melody leading to a full sax soli restatement of the main theme. A change to double time leads to a tenor sax solo followed by a bass solo over accessible blues changes, or the provided suggested solos. A soft ensemble chorus is followed by one and a half choruses in classic shout style before the full ensemble takes it home. An optional flute part is included and the written ranges are: Trumpet 1 to B-flat; Trombone to G-flat; Alto Sax to C. 10311521 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 47.00 n BarnburnerLes Hooper. This is a superb arrangement that is correlated to the Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jazz For Young People Curriculum. 10049804 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 n Bird CountMaria Schneider. Fashioned after the music of Charles Mingus, playing this raucous blues with high energy is the key ingredient for a swingin' performance. Much of the texture comes from the layering of riffs, and alto and bari saxes carry the primary solos. In her score notes, Schneider says the improvisation on the final chord should be wild! 2292605 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 l Black Hole SunChris Cornell/arr. James Miley. James Miley presents a very hip arrangement of a great contemporary tune. Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun is masterfully scored for the modern big band, making great use of interesting saxophone effects, a wonderful rhythm section feel, neat rhythmic ideas, and very playable ensemble parts. This swinging extended blues has an infectious gospel feel with a surprise bridge that changes things up with a slick bebop melody. Trumpet and tenor have written changes, but it can be opened up for others. A lively call and response soli leads to a rousing finish. By the end, the audience will know that blues is for everyone! 10459782 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 n BoliviaCedar Walton/arr. Eric Richards. A big ensemble introduction leads into the familiar and hip bass and piano line followed by the melody stated by alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombone. This chart also features great section and full ensemble parts throughout, a huge shout chorus, and the lead trumpet goes to written high D. Solo space is available for alto, tenor, trumpet, and drums. This extended arrangement is a great big band chart on a great Cedar Walton jazz classic. An ideal festival chart for better bands! 10311459 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 n The BombersAndy Farber. Here's a delightful swing tune that could have come straight out of the Count Basie library, except it was composed to match student levels. The four bar hi-hat solo leads into a strong ensemble introduction followed by a unison tenor sax and trombone section soli theme. The bridge highlights the sax section for four bars then the full ensemble leads to the last statement of the sax/trombone theme. Written or ad lib solos follow, then it's a classic Basie style shout chorus with four measure drum solo fills. Optional higher and lower lead trumpet parts are included. The Bombers is a great style teaching tool, and a perfect selection for festival and concert performances. Highly recommended! 10280851 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 47.00 H Count BubbaGordon Goodwin. Here's a monster of a swinger that's designed to feature the entire ensemble.
