Michael Sweeney. What better way to introduce the music of Duke Ellington to your young jazzers than with this wonderfully scored arrangement by Michael Sweeney! Even at this easy level, this chart really swings and will sound great with limited rehearsal time. Your pianist gets a rare chance to shine as he or she is featured on the melody while the ensemble answers. Later, every section gets to play the melody and there's a written or ad lib solo for any saxophone. The final section starts softly with saxes alone, then builds as various layers are added. This bluesy, swinging chart is playable with as few as 3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, piano and drums, and all solos have written parts provided. This belongs in every young jazz curriculum! Close to the original, but somewhat simplified, this burning rocker from the Maynard Ferguson library really sizzles with a driving intensity! The lead trumpet goes up to high D with a couple high E's thrown in for your aspiring high note specialist. Quincy Jones. Every jazz fan knows it, loves it and has wished it was in print! And now, this quintessential big-band arrangement is finally available! As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time by Basie: Hits of the 50s & 60s, Quincy Jones' arrangement of I Can't Stop Loving You will bring your audiences to their feet. Beginning with the Count's rubato piano tremolo, this laid-back shuffle chart features in-your-face ensemble writing at its finest. There is short, written-out solo space for trombone and piano, but mostly this chart simply swings its tail off with the entire ensemble from beginning to end! Never has a sad song sounded so happy! The tempo can be anywhere between 132 - 150 bpm and there is a written trumpet 2 solo. There's plenty of swingin' ensemble, a great sax section soli plus optional parts for flute, clarinet, vibes, horn, baritone horn, and tuba. Add in trumpet plungers and sliding trombones and it's all great stuff! 10353493 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . ME 44.00 I'm Getting Sentimental Over YouGeorge Bassman/arr. Rick Hirsch. Here's a wonderful update of Tommy Dorsey's classic theme song. It's totally playable by high school jazz bands, yet it also sounds great with college and professional groups. It's written as a trombone feature throughout (with optional solo parts included for B-flat and E-flat instruments), although super-high Dorsey-esque chops are not required. The solo is mostly written with a section of improvising around the melody and ad lib fills at the end. Alternate solo parts for trumpet and saxophone are included, as well as optional parts for Clarinet, Flute, Vibes, and French Horn (doubling the Trombone 1 part). One of the all-time Duke Ellington classics is this elegant, medium swing tune. Glenn Miller's big band classic is one of the best known tunes from the swing era, and Mike's excellent arrangement puts it within reach of young bands. A great jazz standard played around 178 bpm, this swing chart features alto sax with a suggested written solo provided, and a drum solo played in between band hits. Often recorded and performed by jazz artists, this tuneful standard by Duke Pearson is skillfully arranged here in an up-tempo swing style. The solo duties are shared between trumpet and tenor sax with suggested solos and chord/scale sheets provided for improvising. This one just builds and builds! Rich DeRosa keeps this Count Basie signature tune swinging all the way and includes two optional tag endings to keep the Basie style intact. The solos are written out for piano, tenor sax, trumpet and trombone and the lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff with an A on the optional tag ending. This great Kenton classic, as recorded on the album Live from Redlands University, is a swinging, happy chart which allows for lots of blowing space and is combined with great ensemble sections. This chart features the trombone section, with solos for alto saxophone and trumpet. This is a revised, cleaned-up version, done in Finale for the first time, and it is finally correct and much easier to read. If you have the older version lying around, you should definitely consider getting this updated version. 2390581 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 47.00 Billy Byers for the Basie Band! These exceptional Billy Byers charts were featured on some great Basie albums and are now available for the first time in easier edited versions or the pro versions as recorded by the Basie band. Count Me In (Edited Version)—Billy Byers. Much like Basie's Li'l Darlin', this Billy Byers compostion exemplifies quiet, warm ensemble writing at its finest. There is also the contrast of a strong shout section before returning to the quieter approach. This was recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on the album Count Basie's Finest Hour. Set in a medium-slow swing feel, there are solos for trumpet and piano. In this edited version, the arrangement is almost exactly like the original, except the solos are written out, the high trumpet parts are adjusted, and the saxophone parts have been somewhat simplified. 10455850 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .ME 48.00 Count Me In (Pro Version)—Billy Byers. Much like Neal Hefti's Li'l Darlin', this Billy Byers original exemplifies quiet, warm ensemble writing at its finest. There is also the contrast of a strong shout section before returning to the quieter approach. This was recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on the album Count Basie's Finest Hour. Set in a medium-slow swing feel, there are improvised solos for trumpet and piano. It's classic Basie with a soft, swinging melody, room for solos, and an "in-your-face" shout section which then returns to the quiet melody with a gentle ending. In this edited version, the solos are written out for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano, the high brass parts have been modified, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated. This is a great dynamic chart that will stretch the group to play both very loud and very soft, and is definitely an all- time favorite. In this edited version, the high brass parts have been eliminated, the trumpet and piano solos have been written out, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated.
