MA 50.00 Armando's RhumbaChick Corea/arr. Mike Tomaro. From Chick Corea's My Spanish Heart album, this tune is not really a "rhumba," but rather an extremely energetic samba. This dynamic Latin tune showcases two feels, songo and samba, and results in an outstanding samba chart. The exciting opening almost has an a cappella effect, but it's just the rhythm section playing softly. The opening unison lines lead to the full band opening it up with powerful tutti passages. Nice textures are created by the effective use of sectional interplay. The lead saxophone part is for soprano and the solos are for soprano and tenor saxes, or trumpet. Here's a super high-energy Latin samba arranged by Eric Richards that is the perfect opener or closer for any performance. There are solo opportunities for tenor sax, baritone sax, 2nd trombone and drums. This is a powerhouse chart that features tons of cookin' rhythm, a melody that floats above great counterpoint and a magnificent trumpet section soli that really brightens things up. The essence of the original is captured here with this updated version of Dave Brubeck's classic tour de force in a big-band setting! The meter alternates from a 9/8 straight Afro-Cuban feel to a more relaxed 12/8 swing style, and they blend perfectly with Brubeck's rhythmic patterns. There's solo space for alto 1, trumpet 2 and drums, and lead trumpet goes up to written C above the staff. This is an exceptional chart for festival or concert! 2480796 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . Solo space is available for alto, tenor, trumpet, and drums. This extended arrangement is a great big band chart on a great Cedar Walton jazz classic. As recorded by Cannonball Musical Instruments, this is a brilliant Gordon Goodwin chart written for five saxes (SATTB), plus four rhythm instruments and percussion! This brisk samba at around 240 bpm has solo chord changes for everyone. Very exciting, very unique, and extremely hip! 10452172 Jazz Ensemble 5 Saxes, 4 Rhythm & Percussion . . . . . . . MA 68.00 n Cuban OvertureGeorge Gershwin/arr. Chris Sharp. A serious work adapted from the symphonic poem composed by George Gershwin, arranger Chris Sharp has accepted the challenge to create this amazing arrangement for big band. This chart is a primarily a bright samba but it has a slow middle section which reverts to the fiery samba groove. The written or improvised solo space is for alto 1 and trumpet 2 and the lead trumpet range is to D above the staff. A percussion part is included as well. This is a brilliant arrangement and will certainly be a high point in any concert or festival performance. 10277947 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 55.00 Cubauza!Michael Philip Mossman. This exciting Afro-Cuban composition is the opening cut from the 1993 album 944 Columbus, the final recoding by Mario Bauza, one of the most influential figures in the development of Latin jazz. The title comes from combining the words "Cuban" and "Bauza" and features a bebop influence interpreted by the Afro-Cuban rhythm section. This newly edited and engraved edition is a "must have" for mature bands. 10282975 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 60.00 n D'AnnSammy Nestico. This beautiful bossa/ ballad features flugelhorn and was recorded on the Fun Time CD. The rhythm is in a bossa nova style with some beautiful ensemble orchestration and interesting chord changes. This brisk salsa features an Earth, Wind & Fire unison horn theme over a percolating Latin groove. Eric Richards. Commissioned by the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, this Eric Richards chart shines new light on the beauty and depth of this classic Beatles hit. An up-tempo Brazilian groove gives way to hints of samba and songo, but always with a smooth and laid-back feel. A piano solo is featured off the top, followed by a trio of tenor, trombone and guitar on the head, and later solo space for one or more of these players. The scoring utilizes a small group contrasted with passages for the full ensemble. This is an adventurous and engaging work featuring extended harmonies and a unique rhythmic tapestry.
