Christmas & Holiday
The First Noelarr. Mark Taylor. Here is something
unique and fresh-sounding for holiday performances!
Mark Taylor has taken this familiar carol and crafted
it as a light bossa with creative harmonies and lush
scoring. A tenor and trumpet duet recurs throughout,
and solo space is provided for both. Suggested solos
are included. Highly recommended!

Frosty the Snowmanarr. Mike Lewis. Simply
one of the best holiday charts this year! It begins
with an easy-going introduction in the rhythm
section, then the tune gets played through once
with a nice swing to it, and then, all the stops get
pulled out for a big band shout sound that your
band will love! There's a surprise ending to it all too!

bit in the shout chorus. A real cookin' chart!
2442986 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . ME 44.00
n Go Tell It on the Mountainarr. Alan Baylock.
A creative and outstanding chart by Alan Baylock
on the traditional spiritual. Beginning with claps
and foot stomps, it builds throughout and features
a written alto solo and a lead trumpet range to
written B-flat above the staff. Adapted from a chart
originally written for the USAF Airmen of Note, this
jazz waltz will work for the holidays or any season...
it's outstanding!
10277752 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . M 48.00
n God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemenarr. Rich
Woolworth. This up-tempo chart mixes Latin
and swing styles to provide a unique selection
for holiday concerts. Piano and bass start it out
and then other sections are layered in to get
the intensity flowing. The middle part of the
arrangement features written or ad lib solos by alto
sax 1 and trumpet 2 while the rest of the band lays
down the chords and rhythms to keep the Latin
feel. A short drum solo leads back into the melody
before the whole band shifts to a swing style and
then back to Latin to close it out.
10068823 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . ME 50.00
n God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemenarr. Paul Clark.
This hip arrangement lets the audience experience
the traditional carol in a cool rock treatment.
There's no solos in this one and brass ranges are
quite modest, so you'll find it comes together quite
easily for that first concert of the year. There's even
a guitar help sheet to make sure all members of
your rhythm section sound their best.
2472533 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . ME 45.00
H God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemenarr. Gordon
Goodwin. As recorded by Gordon Goodwin's Big

swing at about mm 200, a sax soli, solo space
for alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone and piano, a
modulation and a big shout chorus. It's all here,
it's Gordon Goodwin... what else do you need?
Highly recommended!

n Greensleeves (What Child is This?)arr.
Chris Sharp. Whether you call it Greensleeves or
What Child is This?, you will have a terrific holiday
concert feature with this easy chart in a relaxed,
bossa nova style. It effectively breaks into a swing
section before returning to the Latin groove. There
are no solos and its flexible scoring allows it to be
played with as few as three saxes, two trumpets,
one trombone and rhythm section. Nice!

H
Greensleeves (What Child is This?)arr. Greg
Yasinitsky. Greensleeves begins as a jazz waltz with
baritone sax, piano, and bass laying down the groove
and later goes on to introduce a contrasting swing
section with a written-out solo for tenor sax. The lead
trumpet range is to written A above the staff. This will
be a superb crowd pleaser for your holiday concert!
10011957 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . M 48.00
n Hark! The Herald Angels Singarr. Gordon
Goodwin. More accessible than some of his
charts, Gordon Goodwin gives this traditional
holiday tune a jazz waltz treatment. The features
include: a soprano sax lead part (alternate alto 1
part included), a 2nd alto part with flute double
(alternate 2nd alto sax only part included) and solo
space for soprano sax (or alto), alto 2, and tenor
1. The lead trumpet range is only to a high D.
While not recorded by The Big Phat Band, it's a
holiday staple for live performances. Here's holiday
programming in true big band jazz style!
10311465 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 65.00
n Hark! The Herald Angels Swing!arr. Paul
Clark. Bring your trumpets out front and let
them herald in the holiday season! This super
chart begins with a fanfare that leads into a fun,
swinging version of this familiar carol. It's easy
to work up, and it's playable with optional limited
instrumentations so it will sound fine with as few as
2 trumpets, 3 saxes, 2 trombones and 3 rhythm.
After playing through the tune, the trombones, bass
and bari sax get a fun riff going. Then the saxes and
trumpets "trade twos" over it. This leads up to an
effective and exciting key change with the trumpets
leading the way to the end. This exceptional take
on a holiday classic has no solos. While this chart
is a trumpet section feature, they are never asked
to play for too long without a break, and with the
exception of two Gs, their range stays in the staff.
Highly effective holiday programming!
10311483 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . ME 48.00
n Hark, Those Herald Angels Rockarr. Paul
Clark. The halos come off in this hard-rock version
of the well-known holiday classic that features
effective transitions into and out of the traditional
carol! "Angels with Attitude" is more like it! This
tune features lots of ensemble work, with all
sections getting a chance at the melody. The solos
for any instrument are suggested or improvised
over a simple 2-chord vamp. So easy to prepare,
it's practically "plug and play." Sure to be a rockin'
hit at your holiday concerts! Highly recommended!
Optional reduced instrumentation.

Can't decide whether to do a swing or a rock chart
at your holiday concerts? How about both styles
in the same arrangement? It works great in this
creative version of a well-known carol! There are
no solos and lots of unisons to save rehearsal time,
and the use of both rock and swing styles provides
an opportunity to teach and practice the difference
between the two styles. Very creative at the easy
grade level!

full ensemble. It will also sound full and complete
with reduced instrumentation and it includes parts
additional instruments. All of this adds up to an
arrangement that is an excellent choice for your
holiday programming! Highly recommended!

H Hot Chocolate (from "The Polar Express")
Ballard & Silvestri/arr. John Berry. Here is an
up-tempo and entertaining swing chart from the

Hot Chocolate (from "The Polar Express")
Alan Silvestri/arr. Mike Lewis. From the movie
"The Polar Express," Hot Chocolate is hot stuff!
A fun swinger in a jump style, it's loaded with
energy, based on the original recording and
has been skillfully adapted for the young player.
There are no solos, the ranges are modest and a
driving bass line makes it move along. To make
this chart flexible for all year, the arranger offers
two endings: one with a clever and effective
modulation to a Jingle Bells quote and one
without. Highly recommended!
