Gordon Goodwin wrote this funky chart at the medium grade level to showcase trumpet 1 and trombone 1. Everything is written out including the melody duet, the solos, and the featured trades. The tempo is very accessible at 160 bpm, it's easy to assemble, and it's fun to play! 10452128 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . .M 50.00 Doxy—Sonny Rollins/arr. Michael Sweeney. Arranged in a medium swing/shuffle style, here is a very easy version of this jazz standard by Sonny Rollins that maintains the style and feel of the original. Featuring a mix of full ensemble playing and also call and response scoring, this is a great way to introduce a jazz legend to young players. There is a written or improvised solo for any trumpet or alto saxophone, and the shout chorus features a dialogue between the ensemble and drums. Here is a great chart at a very accessible level with real substance! Highly recommended! 10461404 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . VE 35.00 Feliz Navidad—Jose Feliciano/arr. Peter Blair. A holiday favorite for sure, this Jose Feliciano classic is set here as a bossa nova at about 128 bpm. It's a fine arrangement, well-notated, tasty, and a breeze to assemble for a concert. Written solos for either 1st or 2nd alto sax are included, and the trumpet 1 range goes to written G on top of the staff. Optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Give it a listen, and you'll like it! 10452092 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 46.00 Fever—Eddie Cooley/arr. Paul Murtha. Recorded by Peggy Lee in 1958, this sultry swing tune went on to become her signature song and has remained a popular standard. Paul Murtha's version for young players definitely retains the "cool" factor with finger snaps, sax melody and brass punches. Brief written solos are included for alto sax and trumpet, and it's playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10449094 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 40.00 The First Noel—arr. Peter Blair. This beautiful holiday waltz contains great harmony and texture. Easily performable by younger players at around 96 bpm, it even sounds terrific with reduced instrumentation and includes lots of optional parts. The lead trumpet range goes to written E top space. Simply perfect! 10452070 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 40.00 The Five Note Blues—Doug Beach & George Shutack. The blues form is essential to jazz, and this very easy swing chart is a perfect way to introduce developing players to this form. The melody consists of just five notes that may also be used as the basis of anyone's improvised solo. The open solo section allows for as much improvisation practice as desired. An abundance of full ensemble work rounds out the package. The flexible scoring is for standard jazz ensemble instrumentation (also playable by as few as five horns plus rhythm section) with optional flute, clarinet and horn in F parts included. 10455628 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . VE 42.00 Happy (from "Despicable Me 2")— Pharrell Williams/arr. John Berry. Here's an easy, yet great sounding chart on the hit song from "Despicable Me 2" by Pharrell Williams that just never seems to get old! The melody is skillfully bounced from section to section, and there are no solos required. Playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations, this will be a real favorite.
