Respected composer and arranger Bob Washut brings us this terrific swing/shuffle chart scored for bands programming medium level repertoire. The rhythm section parts are primarily notated and frequent articulations are offered for the horn sections. Solo space is provided for 2nd Trumpet. A nice feature of this piece is the way in which the roaring out chorus suddenly shifts to a quiet ending. You know this great Mancini standard, but check out how the chart goes back and forth from F to A-flat. The swing feel is around 148 bpm, the solos are written for trumpet 2 and alto, the lead trumpet hits a written B-flat above the staff, and the vibe part will add a nice texture to the ensemble. This lovely, slow swing chart written by Benny Carter is designed to feature an alto saxophone soloist with the ensemble playing more than just backgrounds for the soloist. The second chorus features the alto solo for the A section with sax section backgrounds, a sax soli for the bridge and then the ensemble for the last A section. Set in a medium swing style at around 114 bpm, written solos are provided for alto, trombone 1, and piano. Optional wind and vibes parts are included for expanded instrumentations. A fine chart for concert, contest or festival! Highly recommended! 10452140 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 I'm Just Sayin'—Jim Mahaffey. If you're looking for a funky "in-your-face" shuffle, this chart fits the bill! Based on a 16-bar blues variation, it features a down 'n dirty loose shuffle feel, active ensemble passages and an open solo section over 16-bar blues changes. An effective highlight is a horns only section without the rhythm section after the solos. There's improvised solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. In this professional version, Oliver Nelson's solo has been transcribed and set as a trumpet soli. Very cool and fun to play! This chart on John Coltrane's standard features plenty of tutti ensemble playing within the little big band format. A solo for tenor sax is followed by a swingin' shout chorus for the entire group. Quincy Jones. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time By Basie, this Quincy Jones chart is a laid-back, swinging masterpiece. It's a wonderful, classic big band chart that belongs in every library right along side I Can't Stop Lovin' You and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There is space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. This chart is the opening movement of a suite written in memory of music educator Bill Carroll. This is an outstanding, swingin' chart from master arranger Dave Wolpe on this Gene DePaul classic! It's a great tune set at around 152 bpm, with fat ensemble voicings, nice solis, written solos for trumpet 2 and piano, and optional wind and vibes parts for expanded instrumentations. This swinging ensemble chart merges the bluesy lines of Benny Golson reminiscent of his work with Art Blakey, the clarity of Ahmad Jamal, and the relaxed feeling of the Count Basie Orchestra.
