My Foolish Heart is a gorgeous ballad feature for alto saxophone. This chart is lush with beautiful textures but very accessible to the medium grade level. Lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff, and everything is written out for the alto sax soloist with changes provided for some improvisation or ornamentation. A nice modulation leads to a more improv-like section for the soloist and a piano solo break leads to a full band feature section. Highly recommended! 10011959 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 48.00 4 Nora—Bob Turner. Nora is a beautiful swing ballad featuring an alto saxophone soloist and is taken directly from the flexible instrumentation small group chart with the same title. The solo part can be played as written and includes written parts for the solo sections, the solo fills, and the cadenza at the end...or you can just let the soloist go with the included changes! The ethereal piano part at the beginning sets the mood for the transition into the slow swing style. Very nice! 10454530 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 4 The Passage—Gordon Goodwin. As recorded by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, this is a luscious alto sax ballad feature at 74 bpm. It's a lyrical vehicle with rich harmony and textures, soaring ensemble figures, and a soli with saxes (alto 2 optional flute), trumpet 2, guitar, and piano. An outstanding chart! 10452174 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . A 68.00 H Pure Imagination (from "Wille Wonka and the Chocolate Factory")—Bricusse & Newley/arr. Craig Skeffington. If you haven't heard this gorgeous ballad from "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," now is the time. A sensational and easy-to-play alto sax solo feature, this arrangement is scored with lush harmonies and backgrounds. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff, the alto sax solo is entirely written out and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentation. Newsflash: this will be your new favorite tune! 10068800 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 48.00 4 Roman Notes—John LaBarbera. Featuring a hard groovin' 12/8 feel, this John LaBarbera original serves as an alto saxophone feature that also puts the entire band through its paces. The skilled scoring makes this sound harder than it really is, making this a great choice for festivals and contests. As recorded by the John LaBarbera Big Band on Caravan. 10462700 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . A 60.00 Sing, Sing, Sing—Louis Prima/ arr. Gordon Goodwin. A few twists and turns added to the original Benny Goodman swing version make this chart a definite crowd and band pleaser. Gordon Goodwin's arrangement features a clarinet part and an alternate alto 1 part in lieu of clarinet. Solo changes are provided for all saxophone parts and clarinet, and the lead trumpet range is to high F-sharp. While not recorded by Goodwin's Big Phat Band, it's a staple of the band's library and is played often in live performances. It's a wonderful rendition of this big band classic! 10311471 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . A 65.00 Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise— Sigmund Romberg/arr. Mark Taylor. From the rarely remembered 1928 operetta "The New Moon," this lovely tune has gone on to become a standard favored by many jazz artists. Set in a light samba groove, here is a terrific arrangement featuring solo alto saxophone throughout. The solo is beautifully contrasted with ensemble interludes and backgrounds, plus a short unison tutti feature. 10374142 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 50.00 That Sunday That Summer (If I Had to Choose)—arr. Mark Taylor. This wonderful tune from the early 60s has become a standard recorded by countless artists over the years, most notably Nat King Cole. This setting as a solo feature for alto saxophone is in a smooth and lush ballad style, with a brief interlude in double time. Additional features include nice scoring and effective melodic lines for the entire ensemble. 10374140 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 50.00 4 Tomorrow's Memories— Gregory Yasinitsky. This beautiful ballad features alto saxophone with an emphasis on lyricism and rich harmonies. The solo may be improvised or played as written, and additional highlights include a double time section, a solidly scored ensemble chorus, and lots of confidence- building unison figures. It's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10453009 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 True North—Mike Dana. This is a captivating, contemporary even-eighth note ballad in the ECM tradition. Your lead alto player can really shine during this tuneful original for advancing groups. The composer highly recommends using the wordless optional vocal part to enhance the sensitivity and warmth of the piece. Ranges and rhythms are very accessible, but the rhythm section's interpretation must be solid and nuanced. A superb alto sax solo feature, this is a classic 12/8, bluesy and soulful treatment of this great standard! Everything is written out for the alto player and it has chord changes if preferred. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. Give a listen to this great chart and decide for yourself. It's one of the quintessential features for alto saxophone! Highly recommended! Here is a natural pairing of ballad style with an exceptional standard as a tenor saxophone feature. Beautifully arranged, this chart features lush harmonies, a double-time swing section, and a nice sax section soli with tenor lead. The tenor solo is completely notated and does not require improvisation, although it could be added. Feature your tenor sax soloist on this lush ballad that has a hint of Latin. At around 72 bpm, Is That All There Is? is a beautifully melodic ballad solo feature for tenor saxophone. Throughout the chart the ensemble alternates sections with the soloist providing rest for the soloist and exposure for the ensemble. There are optional parts for expanded instrumentations, the rhythm section parts are notated, and an optional vibes part is included. A solo feature for Tenor Saxophone, this lovely chart was originally recorded by the North Texas University 2 O'clock Lab Band. This fresh take on a popular Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke standard features an even eighths Latin feel at about 144 bpm with incredibly beautiful ensemble writing in addition to the Tenor Sax solo. The solo part is both written and improvised and will be an outstanding opportunity to feature your soloist.
