This classic jazz/rock favorite by Joe Zawinul is masterfully arranged for young jazz bands with an easy rock feel by Mike Story. This chart has a simple written out piano solo, a trumpet 1 range to written D fourth line, a tempo at about 100 beats per minute, and a very catchy melody. Playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. It will sound great and it's easy to play, enough said! Joe Zawinul's perennial jazz favorite gets a really accessible and solid treatment in this arrangement that is modeled after the legendary Cannonball Adderly Quintet recording from 1966. The happy, gospel-rock style is one that is always fun to hear and play and now young jazz players can experience it in this easiest version published to date. It's scored for full jazz ensemble instrumentation, but will sound full and complete with a minimum of 3 saxes (AAT), 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, piano, bass and drums. Recorded by Maroon 5 with Christina Aguilera, this infectious dance tune is popular on the airwaves as well as in television commercials. With catchy riffs and a driving rock style, Paul Murtha's chart is skillfully scored to give everyone a taste of the melody. An optional, flexible solo section is included. Additional features include suggested solos, chord/scale sheets in all keys, and options for reduced or expanded instrumentations. The rhythm section gets the groove going, followed by a Mariachi-style trumpet duet introducing the melody. Then everybody joins in and contributes equally with great ensemble sections, counter-lines and solis. A dotted 8th/16th rhythm is repeated throughout, so your ensemble will master it quickly. The ranges are reasonable with the trumpets never leaving the staff, the tempo is around 120 bpm, and there's an open solo section containing only three chords. Mustang Sally is a terrific pop/rock classic for young jazz ensembles that really works! This nice little chart by Victor Lopez features a written solo for alto sax, a trumpet 1 range to written E top space and you can even expand your band if needed with the included optional parts for flute, clarinet and vibraphone. Also playable with optional reduced instrumentation, the tempo is set at about 126 BPM. Ride on, Sally, ride on! Here's a Katy Perry pop tune your jazz ensemble will enjoy playing and the audience will recognize and appreciate! The tempo is around 164 bpm, there are no solos, it's got a big ensemble sound, the trumpet 1 range is to written F top line, and the drum part has a solid back- beat. This chart on Scarborough Fair looks at the familiar tune in a traditional, slow rock style. It contains written solos for trumpet 1 and tenor 1, both with energetic backgrounds, and a modulation into the shout chorus. The trumpet 1 range is to written E top space, and it's playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. There aren't many jazz standards written in a rock style, and this Lee Morgan tune is one of the best! Given the widespread popularity and accessibility of this writer's funk charts, you'll enjoy this original for developing groups. It's an easier funk tune and features melodic content without the usual double- time 16th-note figures. A solid introduction sets up a tuneful melody, and the funk groove is coupled with a rich chord progression that provides plenty of audience and player appeal. Solo sheets for Eb, Bb, C and Bass Clef instruments are offered for the open solo section and the chart is playable by as few as 9 and as many as 17 players. Time To Testify is a tuneful gospel/rock chart that is sure to find its way into the big band folders of developing jazz bands. Opening with a short, notated alto solo, this easy level chart kicks into a strong groove that will energize your next concert program. The piece is playable by as few as 9 pieces and is expandable to 17. The lead trumpet extends only to A5. One line extends to C#, but can played an octave below as indicated on the part. The trombone range goes to G4. The solo section has very accessible chord changes, and as with most of Jarvis' offerings, frequent articulations are provided for the horns. The rhythm parts are an integral part of the arrangement, not merely an afterthought. This piece is guaranteed to get your audience clapping along with the band!
