4 A Summer Night, and You, and Paradise—
Benjamin Kornelis. "A summer night, and you,
and paradise, so lovely and so full of grace,
above your head, the universe has hung its
lights, and I reach out my hand to touch your
face..." Garrison Keillor's lovely words are
treated with sensitivity and care in this touching
piece. Evoking the warmth, longing, and
hopefulness of love, the work allows the choir to
be driven by the natural rhythm of the poetry in
shaping each phrase. A beautiful love song, not
to be missed!

H Sure on this Shining Night—Morten
Lauridsen. "Sure on this shining night of
starmade shadows round, kindness must
watch for me this side the ground..." In this
third movement of his song cycle Nocturnes,
Morten Lauridsen's flowing music captures
all of the beauty and wonder of James Agee's
poem. Set for accompanied SATB voices (with
some divisi), and now for TTBB, this is a superb
composition for better choirs!

This setting of the Swedish folk tune Bred Dina
Vida Vingar, with new English lyrics, describes
the magical qualities of nightfall and the beauty
of the starlit sky. "As the moon ascends the
evening sky and the sun gives way to rest, lilies
bow their heads to bid good-night and the lark
returns to nest..."

There is Peace—Jim Papoulis. The essence
of this work, in a world of conflict and violence,
is the need for a deep understanding that peace
can come from all of us. After the opening
phrase, "Look in the eyes of the children, feel
the touch of their hands, there is peace," the
verse enters, with a full, yet still gentle sound.
The refrain is more celebratory, followed by a
quiet bridge and an ending which is calm and
introspective, much like the opening.

n There Is Sweet Music Here—Greg Gilpin.
Your choir will sound magnificent when they
sing this superb setting of the famous text by
Alfred, Lord Tennyson. "There is sweet music
here that softer falls than petals from blown
roses on the grass, or night dews on still
waters..." With very modest vocal demands,
this is perfect for the young choir, but mature
choirs will also appreciate its musicality and
depth. Highly recommended!

In this heartfelt setting of Charles Dickens' well-
known poem, lyrical melodic lines contrast with
lush harmonic refrains, all in easy, accessible
ranges for developing voices. The piano
accompaniment is very nice, supportive while
giving its own voice to the performance. "The
pure, the bright, the beautiful that stirred our
hearts in youth, the impulses to wordless prayer,
the streams of love and truth...these things can
never die."

Patterson's original setting of The Vagabond for
male solo voice was inspired by Robert Louis
Stevenson's poem of the same name. This
vagabond has chosen the life of the open road:
a bed that "looks up to the stars" and a solitary
path where "freedom is his only companion."
This is sure to resonate with young men.
