This tasty rock ballad will feature your budding alto saxophone or trumpet star in the best possible way. The fully scored ensemble sections compliment the gorgeous theme, and provide a solid foundation for your soloist. The solo part requires no improvisation and the chart is playable with optional reduced instrumentation. A perfect concert or contest choice to showcase the lyrical side of your jazz ensemble! 10280821 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 45.00 Angel Eyes—Matt Dennis/arr. Dave Wolpe. Here is a natural pairing of ballad style with an exceptional standard as a tenor saxophone feature. Beautifully arranged, this chart features lush harmonies, a double-time swing section, and a nice sax section soli with tenor lead. The tenor solo is completely notated and does not require improvisation, although it could be added. The lead trumpet range is to B above the staff, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Simply gorgeous! 10303786 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . M 50.00 4 At the End of the Day—Paul Clark. At the End of the Day is an exceptional ballad solo feature for alto sax or trumpet/flugelhorn. The solo and rhythm section parts are completely written and the ranges are modest with the trumpets never leaving the staff. The lush background parts are supportive for the soloist and the key change near the end adds just the right touch to this beautiful chart. Very nice! 10457905 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . E 45.00 4 Autumn Afternoon—Larry Neeck. Featuring an alto saxophone or trumpet player in a tasty, rock ballad setting, this creative original features a gorgeous solo theme that is completely written. The ensemble provides a lush foundation for young soloists with solid ensemble writing, and it's playable with optional reduced instrumentation. Like the colors of a warm fall day, Autumn Afternoon provides that lyrical, change-of-pace moment for any jazz band performance. Beautiful! 10457907 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 45.00 Back in Time—Pat Metheny/arr. Bob Curnow. Pat Metheny is known for his beautiful melodies, and Back in Time is no exception. Featuring a flugelhorn or trumpet soloist throughout on a written-out solo with chords included for improvisation, this arrangement is very playable by the ensemble with its moderate ranges. Originally recorded on the reissued Secret Story CD, this arrangement is a great addition to Bob Curnow's continuing reflection on Metheny's music. Beautiful melody, beautiful chart! 10368493 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . M 48.00 Europa (Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile)— Santana & Coster/arr. Victor Lopez. Europa is a terrific rock ballad for your tenor sax soloist with no improvisation, and is all written and they just don't get any better than this. The features include a lead trumpet range to written D fourth line, lots of unison ensemble passages plus optional flute, clarinet, auxiliary percussion and vibes parts. A fail-safe tenor showcase that is a huge confidence builder. Our highest recommendation! 10355586 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 44.00 H Georgia on My Mind—Hoagy Carmichael/ arr. Michael Sweeney. This enduring standard by Hoagy Carmichael continues to sound fresh year after year. This easy setting hints at the great Ray Charles' recording, with its lush harmonies and bluesy ballad style. Short solos for trumpet, sax and trombone can also be played as section tuttis. Great for developing balance and ensemble playing. 2392454 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . E 35.00 H God Bless the Child—Herzog & Holiday/arr. Sammy Nestico. Here's the trombone solo/ section feature you've been looking for! This great jazz standard, first popularized by co-writer and singer Billie Holiday, is an ideal solo/soli vehicle for trombones. Sammy's chart is not only lush and beautiful, but it makes perfect sense! 2261535 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . M 50.00 I'm Getting Sentimental Over You—George Bassman/arr. Rick Hirsch. Here's a wonderful update of Tommy Dorsey's classic theme song. It's totally playable by high school jazz bands, yet it also sounds great with college and professional groups. It's written as a trombone feature throughout (with optional solo parts included for B-flat and E-flat instruments), although super-high Dorsey-esque chops are not required. The solo is mostly written with a section of improvising around the melody and ad lib fills at the end. Alternate solo parts for trumpet and saxophone are included, as well as optional parts for Clarinet, Flute, Vibes, and French Horn (doubling the Trombone 1 part). The bass and piano parts are fully notated. An outstanding ballad feature for any program! 10371015 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . M 58.00 Imagine—John Lennon/arr. John Berry. Since its release in 1971, John Lennon's poignant and sensitive song remains relevant and popular today. John Berry's arrangement for younger players is in the style of a rock ballad, with a contemporary feel, and skillfully passes the melody from section to section. Requiring no solos, it's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. 10490301 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . E 40.00 Misty—Erroll Garner/arr. Terry White. Perhaps one of the most familiar jazz standards of all time, this easy but effective chart has a laid-back swing feel. The tempo is 90 bpm with written solos for alto 1 and trumpet 1, and the lead trumpet range goes up to written E-flat top space. It's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. This chart delivers! 10355610 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . E 38.00 H Moon River—Henry Mancini/arr. Rick Stitzel. Henry Mancini's beautiful melody has a graceful, lovely quality that makes it wonderful to play. Your young jazz ensemble will take naturally to the 3/4 feel and rich harmonies that make this chart a real delight to perform. 2473683 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . VE 40.00 4 Nora—Bob Turner. Nora is a beautiful swing ballad featuring an alto saxophone soloist and is taken directly from the flexible instrumentation small group chart with the same title. The solo part can be played as written and includes written parts for the solo sections, the solo fills, and the cadenza at the end...or you can just let the soloist go with the included changes! The ethereal piano part at the beginning sets the mood for the transition into the slow swing style. Very nice! 10454530 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 45.00 H Prayer Meetin'—Matt Harris. Feature a young pianist with this gospel style ballad. The solo is entirely notated except for a short section where the pianist needs to improvise over an easy 4-bar sequence. The slow, infectious groove is perpetuated by fully notated rhythm section parts, trumpets in harmon mutes at times and full band passages. There's an open solo section for soloists of choice that is written or improvised. This chart can be played with a few as 3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, piano, bass and drums, but is scored for full jazz ensemble instrumentation. 10031755 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 45.00 4 The Second Time Around (Edited Version)— arr. Billy Byers. Much like the arrangements of Quincy Jones, Billy Byers provided the Basie band with some of their best music ever recorded. From their album Frankly Speaking: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra, Byers' arrangement of The Second Time Around is a slow swingin' masterpiece. This is a great dynamic chart that will stretch the group to play both very loud and very soft, and is definitely an all-time favorite. In this edited version, the high brass parts have been eliminated, the trumpet and piano solos have been written out, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated. Every band should have this in their library! 10455884 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 48.00 H The Shadow of Your Smile—Johnny Mandel/ arr. Roy Phillippe. Every now and then it comes along, a ballad so hauntingly beautiful that it may just be the highlight of your concert! This is one such gem. After a solo piano introduction, the familiar minor melody is gently taken up by the band. Alto sax and trumpet both get solo passages but, for the most part, it is the ensemble effort that makes this chart one of the best. 2467744 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 44.00 That Sunday That Summer (If I Had to Choose)—arr. Mark Taylor. This wonderful tune from the early 60s has become a standard recorded by countless artists over the years, most notably Nat King Cole. This setting as a solo feature for alto saxophone is in a smooth and lush ballad style, with a brief interlude in double time. Additional features include nice scoring and effective melodic lines for the entire ensemble. 10374140 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . M 50.00 4 Tomorrow's Memories—Gregory Yasinitsky. This beautiful ballad features alto saxophone with an emphasis on lyricism and rich harmonies. The solo may be improvised or played as written, and additional highlights include a double time section, a solidly scored ensemble chorus, and lots of confidence-building unison figures. It's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10453009 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . E 45.00 H What a Wonderful World—Douglas & Weiss/arr. Rick Stitzel. Giving your beginning band great tunes like this to play will turn them on to jazz forever! You just can't beat the appeal of the tune Louis Armstrong made so famous, and it's surely stood the test of time. This very playable version is nicely scored where each section gets a piece of the melody.Very highly recommended! 2470819 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . VE 35.00 H When I Fall in Love—Victor Young/arr. Craig Skeffington. Show off the sensitive side of your band with this ensemble ballad with no featured soloist. There is a brief 4-bar written trumpet melody. Otherwise, it's all ensemble blend with a lush texture, a double-time section and lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff. The drummer plays with brushes and sticks, the band emotes and everybody sounds great! Optional parts for flute, horn in F, baritone horn and tuba are included. You'll fall in love with this excellent chart! 10049716 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . M 50.00 see more!
