l A Celtic Ring (Holy Manna)Susan Geschke.
Weaving together original melodies and holy manna,
Susan Geschke's latest piece is playful and exuberant
as it dances happily along. This lighthearted selection
is immediately engaging and is as pleasing to hear as
it is to ring. A sprinkling of staccato notes throughout
and no bell changes will give your ringers just the
right amount of challenge. Given an alternate title of
holy manna, this piece works equally well in church
and community settings.

l Come, Thou Fount of Every BlessingJohn
B. Wyeth/arr. Ron Mallory. Here is a vibrant and
energetic setting of the well-known hymn tune. The
malleted rhythm is complicated, but once learned it
is repetitive, making the bass line easier to learn.
A softer middle section uses optional three-octave
handchimes to provide contrast with the malleted
opening and closing sections. This new, modern
approach will delight audiences whether performed
during a worship service or a concert or festival!

4 Contemplation & Dance on kINGsFOldarr.
Hart Morris. The 'contemplation' section of this
arrangement evokes the sedate mood of many
of the hymn texts with which it is associated; the
random ringing, singing bells and mellow tone
of the handchimes all contribute to the soothing
effect. The passing of the melody between
octaves in the handchimes works beautifully for
interest. The 'dance' section introduces a more
celebratory mood that is full of excitement, with a
quicker tempo, featuring the use of mallets, ring
touch and martellato techniques, plus optional
hand drum. In addition, a flute part which
enhances both sections with a slightly Native-
American feel may be added.

l Fantasy on Liverpool (Ring, Bells, Across

Composed for the 2012 International Handbell
Symposium in Liverpool, England, this work is
based on the tune Liverpool by John Roberts. Heard
throughout is a contrasting motif formed by spelling
the word
liverpool in musical notes. Several stately
treatments of the tune are followed by a toccata-like
section in which all ringers are challenged by many
fast-moving sixteenth-note runs. The final verse
includes lyrics added by Fred Gramann that speak
of the various roles played by bells and their power
to bring unity. This can be sung by the ringers if
desired, or printed for audience participation.

Get on Board, Little Childrenarr. Greg
Gilpin & Martha Lynn Thompson. This charming
handbell arrangement of Get on Board, Little
Children is based on Greg Gilpin's spirited and
fun choral setting of the traditional spiritual. In
the handbell arrangement, the accompaniment
makes extensive use of bells malleted on the
table reminiscent of a train on the tracks, while
the melody is rung above. A train whistle is
optional, but adds such a fun element to the
arrangement. There is a key change in the middle,
but it shouldn't cause any "train wrecks!" The 3
octave version is as musically satisfying as the 4
or 5 octave versions. Ringers and audiences of all
ages will enjoy this lively piece.
