Scene 6 GWEN: Hey, everybody. It's almost time for the pageant. ADDISON: And here comes our special friends. ]62 (Sound effect – Siren, Background noise) LUCAS: And the police! POLICE MAN: (whistle) Excuse me, is there a Mr. Carmichael here? MR. CARMICHAEL: That would be me. What's this all about? POLICE MAN: I'm here from city hall, and I'm shuttin' you down. MR. CARMICHAEL and KIDS: What? POLICE MAN: (whistle) Sir, you can not use this area out front without a proper permit. And I'm afraid you do not have one. MR. CARMICHAEL: What? I've never heard of such a thing before! POLICE MAN: I'm sorry. Pack it up kids! I have my orders! KIDS: No! POLICE MAN: (whistle) You heard me! (Karly's MOTHER enters with a letter.) MOTHER: Wait! KARLY: Mommy, you made it! But now there's no pageant. KIDS: No! (Stop "Background noise" Sound effect.) MOTHER: I would have been here sooner. But while I was at work today, I overheard that they were going to shut you down, Mr. Carmichael. MR. CARMICHAEL: They can't close me down the weekend before Christmas! POLICE MAN: I have my orders! MOTHER: Now, wait a minute. Look, I've got your permit. I pulled some strings, and here, Mr. Carmichael, you're back in business! (MOTHER hands letter to POLICE MAN.) KIDS: Yeah! POLICE MAN: (takes letter) I'll be the judge of that… Hmmm. Well, it's clear! Okay, you are back in business. KIDS: (Cheer!) 72 For Preview Only
