l Markings of GraceJohn Ferguson. While not
difficult, this setting of John Thornburg's new text
of praise to God will prove ideal for any service
remembering and affirming God's constancy.
The creative choral setting and colorful organ
accompaniment combine to paint a joyful, yet
introspective picture of God's continuing presence
in our lives. An antiphon of praise contrasts with
a lyrical melody whose text details the many
evidences of God's grace and constancy.

arr. James Chepponis. This hymn concertato
on
FESTAL SONG contains two complete texts,
increasing its usefulness. The first text is based
on Psalm 100 and is suitable as a hymn to begin
a service, and the second is based on Matthew
28:19-20 and is suitable to conclude a service.
(They are not intended for use in the same service.)
It begins with a brass and choral fanfare that leads
into a sturdy unison rendition of the first stanza,
and develops from there. A modulation recaps the
opening fanfare and leads into the final stanza with
a vocal descant and a florid part for a solo reed
stop on the organ.

to the divine creation of the world sets part of the
Benedicite text from the U.S. Book of Common

used to great effect, with phrases often beginning
in strong unison before opening out into rich and
colourful harmonies. Helvey highlights the words
through the use of homophonic textures and
changing time signatures to follow the natural
stresses of the text.

Carlos Colon-Quintana. This piece takes its

was written to commemorate the martyrdom of six
Jesuit priests and two women on the campus of
Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) in El Salvador
in 1989. It may be sung entirely in Spanish or
English, or by alternating the two languages. The
music moves through a sense of lament and ends

When Stephen Paulus passed away in
October of 2014, the music community lost
one of its most significant and expressive
voices. Mr. Paulus was a Grammy-
nominated composer, equally at home with
choral and instrumental works. He was probably best known for his
arrangements of Christmas carols performed annually by the Dale
Warland Singers. Those listed here are a small example of more than
500 works that bear his unmistakable and unique musical imprint.
