Fully featuring an alto sax soloist with outstanding melodic content, there is a slow, nostalgic feel here with just a hint of blueness. The solo part is fully written with opportunities for improvising around the melody and is supported by tasty brass backgrounds and lush soli sections. A haunting lyrical melody, lush voicings and dynamic contrasts are but a few of the winning features of this alto sax feature. This ballad at an accessible grade level also has some spots where the full band really sparkles and a chorus where the lead trumpet shines and gives the soloist a little break. The solo is entirely notated and changes are provided for embellishment or improvisation if desired. This chart is a winner! Highly recommended! 10011928 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . A nice modulation leads to a more improv-like section for the soloist and a piano solo break leads to a full band feature section. Highly recommended! 10011959 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 52.00 4 Night Mist—Larry Neeck. With a haunting melody, this minor-key ballad is the perfect feature for promising alto saxophone or trumpet/flugelhorn soloists. The featured solo part is fully written, although some embellishment by the soloist is an option. The well-scored ensemble provides solid support for the soloist, and the band also has its moment in the spotlight with a lush interlude. Sophisticated, yet accessible! 10518279 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 4 One More Dream—Patrick Williams. Here is a wonderful alto saxophone ballad feature by master composer Patrick Williams. Optional woodwind doubles are for alto flute and clarinet and there are optional parts for two horns in F. The ensemble parts are more accessible than most Williams compositions and the gorgeous solo melody has space for the advanced soloist to improvise. A class act all the way! 10513962 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . MA 80.00 l Opus de Funk—Horace Silver/ arr. Marty Paich. In 1959 Art Pepper recorded 12 tunes backed by an 11-piece small band. The Marty Paich charts focused on modern jazz classics including this arrangement of the Horace Silver composition Opus de Funk. This small band chart featured Art Pepper on alto sax. This publication has been edited and engraved from the original score. Instrumentation: 2 Alto Saxes, 1 Tenor Sax, 1 Baritone Sax, 2 Trumpets, 1 Horn in F, 2 Trombones, Piano, Bass and Drums.
