Alan Baylock crafts a great swinger on one of Coltrane's brilliant compositions. Set around 208 bpm, this chart includes solo space for alto and tenor and a lead trumpet range to written high C. Here is a free-swinging, remarkable chart on this Hoagy Carmichael standard that stands among the best versions out there. Beginning with a soft, swinging ensemble, the chart moves into space for soloing by tenor saxophone and trumpet, returning to the initial feel with a wonderful, warm ending. All brass ranges are very moderate. This will be a great addition to any jazz band library! 10519938 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 57.00 4 An Open and Shut CasePaul Baker. Gifted composer Paul Baker has crafted a bright swing chart that has it all! It's a bright swinger, has tons of energy, features "blues with a bridge" solos for tenor and trumpet, an eight-bar drum interlude, has a very cool "rhythm out" section after the solos, and an outstanding sax soli. Lots of independent section work lets each part of the ensemble shine. The trumpet range is to written high C. It's an open and shut case, this chart cooks! 10518336 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n OrnithologyParker & Harris/arr. Greg Yasinitsky. Greg Yasinitsky has set Charlie Parker's great bebop tune to swing at about 172 - 200 bpm. Featuring plenty of excellent sax section solis, brass solis, solo spaces (suggested written solos included) for tenor sax, and piano, this is fine big band swing chart on a great tune. The lead trumpet range goes up to written B-flat above the staff and optional flute and vibraphone parts are included. This original chart commissioned and written by Fred Sturm features drums throughout in this modern swing tune that winds through many different feels. Utilizing both brushes and sticks, this wonderful arrangement features the drummer by providing interplay with the ensemble and plenty of solo space. Don Sebesky. As recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra, this is one of those charts that escaped notice for many years. The melody is stated by alto saxophone and trumpet, weaving in and out of various textures created by muted brass. Alternating even eighth note and swing feels in 3/4 meter, it begins to accelerate and rise at a climactic point where the melody is once again taken over by a solo trumpet and alto saxophone. Surprisingly, the brass ranges are moderate. If you wish to program a piece having a very unique flavor and great audience appeal, this is the chart! 10519942 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 57.00 n Sadie's SisterPete McGuinness. If you're looking for an exceptional shuffle chart, then look no further... Sadie's Sister is it! Inspired by Horace Silver's Sister Sadie, this chart swings hard from beginning to end at about 136-140 bpm and has wonderful unison sections, harmonized passages, and solis that will show off the talents of your band in the best possible way. The solos are indicated for trumpet, alto, trombone, bass, and drums. The soloists can improvise over the chords provided in the respective parts or can perform the written solos as indicated. As recorded by Count Basie on Prime Time, here is the magnificent Nestico flag-waver to end all flag-wavers! Combine a wonderful standard tune with solos for piano and tenor along with some of Sammy's finest ensemble writing ever, and you have a highlight for any concert or festival. Think of Take the "A" Train with a contemporary flair and you have the idea behind this inventive chart by Alan Baylock. Opening in a swing groove then alternating with a funk feel, bari sax, bass trombone, guitar and bass have the initial melodic statement in this terrific chart. Solo space is available for alto sax 1, trombone 1, bari sax and trumpet 2 and the lead trumpet range is to written D above the staff. A modern yet superb chart of a tune everyone knows. As the title suggests, Terry Town is a fun bebop chart in the joyful spirit and tradition of the late, great Clark Terry. Each section gets its turn in the spotlight, saxes at first, trumpets on the bridge, and trombones on solo backgrounds. A trumpet solo is followed by a piano (or guitar) solo, and then the trombones and bass trade fours with the drums. The trumpets join in with the guitar and lead to a big flag-waving shout chorus that features the lead trumpet, who sails above the ensemble and gets the last word at the end of the chart. The trumpet range is to written high C. Another Paul Baker chart that has it all! 10518348 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 There's the RubGordon Goodwin. Very funky! The half-time shuffle groove in this chart is loaded with attitude. The rhythm section sets things up for the clever theme, played by altos and trumpets. Erik Morales has created a hot arrangement of this Bobby Timmons jazz classic! It's an exciting jazz waltz played at about 174 bpm. The melody is initially handled by alto, trumpet 2 and guitar with a written or improvised alto sax solo. Strong ensemble passages bring the feel to life - this chart is one that will create great energy. The lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Available for many years, this Holman classic has been revised to require only eight brass and now includes a well-edited full score. This wonderful chart is featured on the Count Basie Orchestra recording I Told You So and has always been a top seller. Told You So is a medium- tempo swing chart featuring, among other things, a marvelous extended sax soli and a flute double on the tenor part. Making good use of the polyrhythmic aspects of 3/4 time, Patty Darling has once again created a highly original composition that explores the wonderful sonorities of the big band. She manages to create fresh sounds without using extreme ranges or difficult rhythmic patterns and includes flexible solo space for tenor saxophone and/or trumpet. It's a shuffle at around 166 bpm and is a feature for two tenor saxes. This is not a duel, but a vehicle to showcase both tenor players. This Oliver Nelson chart features alto saxophone and trumpet playing the melody. Lengthy solo sections with exciting backgrounds are featured for both those players. The band also has their turn to wail behind and after the solos. This is a standout arrangement by John Fedchock full of great sectional writing and sophisticated harmonies. Anthropology is a great Charlie Parker tune arranged by Victor Goines, and it's smokin' hot. Recorded by the Bill Holman Band on their album Brilliant Corners, this is the great Thelonious Monk tune set in a straight-eighth Latin feel. The solo space is for alto saxophone, trumpet, piano, and drums. There's wonderful ensemble writing throughout, and this Bill Holman classic is a must- have for your band. Alto 1 doubles on soprano.
