It features the saxes in a "four brothers" setting with written solo space provided for each of the five saxes if desired. The lead trumpet range is to written B above the staff and there are parts included for optional expanded instrumentations. In the style of Basie and Hefti, this Gordon Goodwin adaptation of the wonderful holiday classic is set in a medium swing style. Not a drum showcase, but the drummer has plenty of solo space beginning on brushes, then to sticks as the intensity rises. There is a flute part on second alto (can be omitted) and a percussion part for vibes. The optional solo space is for alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone, and the lead trumpet range is to written high E. A great sax section soli rounds out this excellent chart. This one is so nice, you'll want to play it year 'round! Highly recommended! 10093207 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 65.00 4 The Little Drummer Boyarr. Rob Holmes. Here's a very clever arrangement of this holiday gem! It's a drum set on brushes feature at around 172 bpm in the style of Hefti's Cute with a written or ad lib trumpet 2 solo. There's tons of nice ensemble work and a lead trumpet range up to written A above the staff. A nice sax soli and a unison interlude complete this Christmas package! 10513909 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . M 50.00 l The Little Drummer Boyarr. Gordon Goodwin. Here's Gordon Goodwin's slow, funky version of the holiday classic that's very clever with the initial melody line played by bass trombone and bari sax. The tempo is 110 bpm, it has soprano sax lead, and solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombones 1 and 2. The lead trumpet range is up to high A-flat. Very cool chart! 10513954 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 70.00 n Lo, How a Rose E'er Bloomingarr. Bob Curnow. With a nod to the wonderful Dave Maddux arrangement written for the vocal group First Call, Bob Curnow has created a gorgeous version for big band. Every jazz group needs Christmas charts to perform, and this one is beautiful in its simplicity and overall effect. It begins quietly in a jazz chorale style and gradually builds to a dramatic climax followed by a sonorous ending. There are no solos. Turn off the house lights, put the spotlight on your band, and you will be able to hear a pin drop when you finish this beautiful arrangement. Mike Story arranges this standard as an easy- to-rehearse chart that has appeal and a catchy, familiar melody. There are brief written solos for trumpet, tenor, alto, and trombone, effective ensemble passages, and a swing style tempo around 136 bpm. It's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. This is a well-written chart that will have terrific band and audience appeal! 10513865 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . Here's a lighthearted jazz waltz version of the holiday favorite Jingle Bells that will be wonderful change-of-pace programming for any holiday jazz performance! Played at around 168 bpm, it includes interesting ensemble passages, a light and airy jazz style, and a written or improvised piano solo near the end. The flexible instrumentation can be played by almost any combination of four, five or six winds and rhythm section. The solo trumpet part only has one G above the staff, and an optional lower note is provided. A short improvisation section is optional, and a suggested solo is included. In addition to the trumpet, all sections of the band have the melody at some point.
