Ralph Ford. Here's a wonderful take on the group Toto's classic rock tune from the '80s. It's solidly scored throughout and sounds amazingly like the original while remaining accessible for developing jazz bands. With nice dynamic contrasts, an uncomplicated melodic line, and a medium rock groove, this chart is one that younger players can really dig into, yet it will sound mature when performed by a more advanced group. More features include: half- note tempo of 90 bpm; written or ad lib solos for alto sax 1 and trombone 1; trumpet 1 range to written G on top of the staff; and optional parts for flute, clarinet and vibes. This Megan Trainor megahit is set at around 136 bpm with a solid rock groove, has no solos, and will be a favorite with students and audiences. This Victor Lopez arrangement bounces the melody from section to section, features very easy trumpet ranges, and includes optional parts for expanded instrumentations. Paul Murtha's take on Meghan Trainor's smash hit features a catchy melody, a strong rhythmic pulse, hand claps, fun instrumental effects, and a hint of doo-wop. Arranged here in an easy setting for younger players with no solos, this is a great way to bring a taste of current pop to your next concert. Alan Baylock. A real jazz classic, this chart kicks! The solos are written or ad lib for tenor sax and piano, the lead trumpet range is to written E top space, and optional parts are included for vibes, flute, clarinet and more. This one is accessible, solid, and includes nice contrasts. Angel is one you don't want to miss! 10513855 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 40.00 Angel Eyes—arr. Carl Strommen. Oh, yes! This is a superb setting of the iconic jazz ballad that features the alto sax star in your band. The alto solo is mostly written with opportunities to improvise around the melody, and the ensemble gets their chance in the spotlight with some fine full-band passages. The trumpet 1 range is to written E top space with some optional octave-up sections if desired. Whether your jazz band has some experience or is in the developmental stages, this medium-tempo swingin' blues chart is suitable for all performance situations. All sections have interesting parts to play, articulations are frequently offered, ranges are reasonable, and rhythm parts are notated with chord symbols provided. The easy-going, tuneful melody is supported by accessible secondary figures and the ranges are very reasonable. Suggested or improvised solos are offered for baritone sax and tenor sax. Recorded on the 1956 album Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, this jazz standard composed by pianist Red Garland adapts beautifully for young jazzers. With a moderate tempo, a riff-based melody, and non-threatening soloing on the blues progression, this is the perfect introduction to the music of Miles Davis for students and audiences. Suggested solos are included along with chord/scale sheets in all keys, and it's playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Full of fun and excitement, this one will have them wanting to get up and dance to their favorite holiday tune! 10515792 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 Chicks Dig It—Kris Berg. The "chicken" series continues with this outstanding funk chart by Kris Berg. With the chicken-flavored title, this is just plain funky. The laid-back tempo is around 100 bpm; the solo space is for tenor sax (suggested or improvised), there's some slap bass licks on the very hip bass part, and lead trumpet range is to written B above the staff. Additional features include a written alto sax solo and trumpet 1 range to written E top space, plus it's playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. It's Victor Lopez, it's Christmas, and it's accessible! What more do you need? 10513985 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . VE 40.00 Dawn of the Chili Pepper—Doug Beach & George Shutack. At last the origins of the elusive Chili Pepper are revealed at the easy grade level! Set in a driving tempo at about 176 bpm, this exciting chart makes the Chili Pepper spirit accessible to younger players. The strong melody, solid ensemble writing and irresistible Latin groove combine to create a chart that will be a great favorite for years to come. This accessible chart is scored for four horns with rhythm section and is expandable to full big band, has written or ad lib solos for all, and includes optional parts for flute, clarinet and horn in F. It does its Basie thing with a light and cool swing feel, includes nice changes in texture, has brief written or ad lib solos for alto sax and trumpet 2, and an outstanding shout chorus with drum fills. Played at 156 bpm, the trumpet 1 range is up to written G on top of the staff, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Great tune, great chart! 10513893 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 46.00 I've Got You Under My Skin—Cole Porter/ arr. Bill Cunliffe. Here's a medium swinger on this iconic Cole Porter standard with an easygoing feel at about 132 bpm. Featuring great ensemble passages as well as written or improvised solos for tenor sax, trumpet, and alto sax with an alto cadenza, it includes a sweet shout chorus, nice development, and a written trumpet range to B-flat.
