n Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis
Ralph Vaughan Williams/arr. Hoffman. This string
masterpiece received a big boost in popularity
from the movie "Master and Commander: The
Far Side of the World." This piece combines
the simple but elegant thematic material of the
Elizabethan church composer Thomas Tallis, later
expanded and modernized through the luxurious
harmonies of Vaughan Williams. Hoffman's lush
arrangement, adapts and simplifies the original
version into a work that is ideal for developing
string orchestras. Performance options such as
doubling at the octave are given to re-create the
sound of the original. Lots of divisi writing makes
this ideal for combined or large orchestras! An
excellent choice!

Ralph Vaughan Williams/arr. Monday. Rescored
for strings, harp (keyboard) and two violin soloists,
this ethereal setting of Vaughan Williams' stellar
opus retains the form and texture of the original

effortlessly from one section to another as Vaughan
Williams intended and the first violin solo includes
some 3rd position work while the second solo only
requires 1st position. For large or small performing
groups, this is a rich setting of a classic work
appropriate for concerts, Christmas presentations,
and festivals throughout the year.
