l Academie MusicaleRob Grice. Here is a strong
choice for your next festival or concert performance!
Full of energy and vitality, this contemporary, fresh-
sounding selection will motivate your players and
impress your audience!

4 AdamantLarry Clark. This dramatic piece
cranks right from the start! The work is set in E
minor (but without any C naturals on the A string)
with simple rhythms no more difficult than two
repeated eighth notes. You will hear some biting
dissonances to the flowing main theme.
10522005 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00
4 Aeolian RockJeffrey Frizzi. This fun-loving
original is guaranteed to motivate beginning string
players by highlighting the strengths of every
section. Unison cellos and basses start off with
an 8-bar groove in A minor before upper strings
come in with a cool melody. Then violas assume
the melodic lead in the middle section of the piece
before a strong tutti finish.
10492375 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 42.00
AftershockLarry Clark. Beginning with a bold
and aggressive fanfare-type statement and a
number of dramatic pauses, this forceful piece is
sure to make an impact on the audience. Using two
repeated eighth note patterns as the most difficult
rhythm, the theme includes some dissonances that
create musical tension. The dynamics bring out the
emotion of the piece from beginning to end. Intense!
10277937 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00
AirplaneMichael Hopkins. An exciting airplane
ride is depicted in this fun piece for beginning string
groups. The sections of the orchestra enter gradually
and the tempo of the piece increases as the plane
accelerates down the runway and takes off. Gradually
building to a fortissimo, the music then becomes
quieter as the plane descends, and the music
gradually slows as the plane comes to a stop at the
gate. In addition to being a great piece for working on
tempo changes and dynamics, it reinforces a crisp
detached bow stroke on the quarter notes, smooth
repeated eighth notes, and using full bows on the
half notes. Imaginative and effective!
10312790 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 42.00
n AntagonistLarry Clark. In every great story
there is always an antagonist, the character whose
opposing force is central to the success of the
story. This concept has been applied to music in
this selection for string orchestra. The piece is
aggressive and at times purposely antagonizing.
Designed with the youngest of players in mind, it
works on simple repeated eighth-note patterns as
the foundation for the melodic material. Interesting
parts are provided for all instruments, and everyone
gets to play the melody. Impressive!

H
Apollo SuiteMerle Isaac. An exceptionally
fine contribution to the literature for very young
instrumentalists. Recorded by Michigan State
University Orchestra on the CD, Teaching Music

Pepper #5973728.

n Appalachian HymnSoon Hee Newbold. This
lyrical work was inspired by the traditional folk
tunes and hymns of the Appalachians. Using mostly
a simple pentatonic scale, the warm melody evokes
rustic images of the American outdoors. The writing
makes even smaller groups sound full. This is an
ideal choice for your next concert.
2480753 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00
ArmadaVictor Lopez. Experience the thrill of
the sailing of the Spanish Armada in this original

Attack!Jeffrey Frizzi. The dark sound of D minor
is paired with aggressive, repeated down bow
strokes to create a mood of impending doom for
beginning string groups. A great way for teaching
low 2nd finger, double stops and B flats, this is one
that your young players can really dig into.
10185981 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 42.00
n AttilaWilliam Owens. The mighty army of
Attila the Hun is once again on the move with this
aggressive yet masterfully crafted work! Melodies
both powerful and tender come together to create
a memorable musical experience. Fun to play and
incredible to hear!
10454262 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00
Battle QuestMike Forbes. Give your beginning
string players a challenge with this aggressive
sounding work. The thematic material is first heard
in the violas as the rest of the sections play basic
rhythms in 4/4, but with shifting accents, creating
the illusion of mixed meters. The excellent use of
dynamics, articulation and pizzicato provide young
players with "meaty" material that makes them
sound much more advanced.
10366532 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00
l Be Sharp but Stay NaturalLoreta Fin. The
melodic line begins in unison, but then becomes
more complex as the rhythm changes, with slightly
canonic entries between the parts. The piano part
is essential so that students can hear the changing
harmonies from major tonality to minor, and it adds
a groove that students and audiences will enjoy.
10522638 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00
The BeastMichael Story. This original work
is accessible for beginners and is designed to
musically depict a large, four-hoofed animal, real
or imaginary.
10453840 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00
l Black Cat CrossingLorie Gruneisen. Young
string players will absolutely love the vocalized
cat sounds (meow and hissss!) that punctuate
this highly imaginative original! Educational
features include playing F-naturals in a minor key,
negotiating transitions between pizzicato and arco
passages, and observing dynamic changes.
10492377 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 42.00
n Canon PowerBob Lipton. Powerful, energetic
and fun, this piece is a great opportunity to
encourage independent playing within ensembles.
Bolster each section's confidence as they present
several different melodies in true canon fashion, with
a few twists and turns thrown in for good measure.
10454257 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00
H
Celtic DanceMark Williams. Young string
players will love getting a hold of this playable
original dance in the Celtic style. Written in E dorian
mode, the work uses only the notes of a one-octave
D major scale, and makes a fine introduction to
modal harmonies.

Chins and PinsRichard Meyer. Check out this
musical conversation between the "Chins" and the
"Pins!" Students will learn the roles of melody and
accompaniment as the ensemble trades phrases
in contrasting motion using only the notes of the
D Major scale. Frequent changes from arco to
pizzicato will keep everyone on their toes!

Clash of the Triads!arr. Deborah Baker
Monday. The "clash" of your favorite themes
abound in this highly entertaining arrangement.
Beethoven vs. Mozart is finally trampled by the
favorite Can-Can. Everyone will love this classical
combo of themes from Beethoven's "Fifth
Symphony," Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nactmusik,"
and Offenbach's Can-Can!
10312808 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 42.00
Concerto for TriangleMike Hannickel. Here's
a unique way to add some fun to your program.
Staged with a featured player, this piece unfolds
with numerous missed opportunities for the triangle
soloist (maybe a local celebrity, like the principal,
mayor, or a special teacher), and culminates with a
big finish concerto style.
10185485 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 35.00
n Courtly Dance and ProcessionBrian Balmages.
You'll be surprised to know that this great sounding
work uses only six notes in all instruments! (D-B).
This Renaissance-styled piece also offers your
strings the chance to expand their abilities by playing
two contrasting moods: the rhythmic dance, and a
lyrical processional theme. An optional tambourine
part is included. Highly recommended!
